DescriptionFor more than 20 years, Globeleq has been a long-term investor, developer, owner and operator of diversified power projects in Africa, where the company is one of the largest Independent Power Producers. With nearly 1500MW of generation capacity in operation across 16 power plants in 7 countries, 488MW of new power projects in construction and >2,000MW in development, Globeleq is one of the largest independent power producers solely focused in Africa. Globeleq is 70% owned by British International Investment and 30% by Norfund, the development finance institutions of the UK and Norway, and has a proven track record for supporting the ongoing development of the African power sector.
Globeleq's various generation technologies include gas, wind, solar PV, battery energy storage (BESS), and geothermal. The company is also actively pursuing new opportunities which are emerging from the energy transition, including desalination projects powered by renewables, as well as green hydrogen and ammonia projects.
In this role, the Data Analytics Manager oversees the data analytics department. This department focuses on performing data analytics, developing analytical tools, introducing workflow efficiencies through automations, identifying growth opportunities, and optimizing operations.
This leadership role not only leads departmental strategies and policies but also delves into analytical challenges to enhance business performance. They are responsible for defining key business questions, developing key operational data infrastructure, developing advanced analytical models for performance evaluation, preparing data for analyses, and presenting insights to various stakeholders throughout the business.
Additionally, the Head of Data Analytics fosters a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organization through the use of BI tools. This role is based in Cape Town, with occasional travel to GSAM's RE power plant sites.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Strategic Alignment: Define the purpose, goals, and long-term objectives of the department to align with the organizational strategy, continuously communicating with management to ensure alignmentManage resource allocation to prioritize projects based on their importance and alignment with the organizational goalsAnalytical Data Platforms: Manage the development of the business' centralized, end-to-end, data historian and asset performance monitoring system, AVEVA PI, to meet business objectivesEnsure the optimal operation and development of business insight reporting tools and align them with changing business requirementsContinuously ensure that industry best practices are implemented in the data management architectureSet up data acquisition systems and asset frameworks to integrate new power plants into the data historianSupporting Cross-Functional Objectives: Support various business functions through data-driven insightsSupport performance initiatives, such as module health management, to optimize plant production and operational efficiencyDevelop integration tools, using data engineering skillset, to facilitate data-provision into analytical modelsDesign database architectures for reporting and data analysis, implementing ETL processesDevelop, manage and complete focused improvement O&M projectsInnovative Technologies: Conduct research and development of cutting-edge technological advancements, and implement solutions where feasible, to support efficient workstreams throughout the businessDrive the development and integration of an AI/ML augmented asset performance assurance centreContinuously develop and integrate digital twin and CMS systems, through the centralized asset performance monitoring system, by introducing innovative machine learning methods to facilitate predictive maintenanceTeam Cohesion and Effectiveness: Mentor individual members to foster a collaborative and synergetic environment to achieve shared goalsEnsure effective, transparent communication between team members and other business functions to align overall focus of the team and ensure clear channels for information to flowResolve any internal conflicts constructivelyContinuously align team objectives with organizational objectivesPerform other work-related activities as delegated by the line manager or requested by colleagues to achieve organizational objectives.

A BEng, BSc or equivalent NQF level qualificationMinimum 5 years' relevant work experienceAdvantageous:
