Position Purpose / Objective
The Cost Accountant will play a key role in analyzing and managing all costs associated with the production process within our operations. You will collaborate with production, purchasing, and management teams to ensure accurate financial data that supports strategic decision-making.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
Investigate, explain, recommend and take correction action in respect of material over / under recoveries and abnormal cost increases in respect of material, labor, and overheads.
Supervise and prepare manufacturing cost center budgets and forecasts and calculate recovery rates in conjunction with relevant Manufacturing departments heads.
Accurate and timely processing and reconciliation of weekly/monthly wages.
Assume responsibility for the accurate reporting of all inventory balances.
Execution of Group inventory reserve policies and the valuation of inventory at the lower of cost and net realizable value.
Coordinate annual cost updates and analyze product profitability and bill of materials.
Machine rate calculations.
Report on and provide support on purchase price and labor variances.
Accrue for inbound/outbound freight and clearing cost, analyze against actuals and recommend improvements.
Product warranty accruals and periodic review of provision rates.
Reconcile key balance sheet accounts and drive process improvements within area of responsibility.
Support month-end closing process.
Production team with the submission of capital expenditure requests.
Contributing to internal and external audit activities as may be necessary for the successful execution of the audit plan for the year.
Preparation of management reports. Includes Manco & Opsco.
Support physical inventory counts and monitor cycle count program.
Ensuring compliance to QMS standards.
Minimum Requirements
B. Com Accounting or equivalent qualification.
Studying towards or CIMA qualified would be advantageous.
3 – 5 years relevant experience within the Cost Accounting field.
Exposure to monthly/quarterly reporting for a Global Organization would be advantageous.
Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and manufacturing processes.
Experience with budgeting and forecasting.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Analytical thinker.
Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to improving processes.
Microsoft Office Suite with strong Excel skills.
Ability to analyze large sets of data.
Use of data transformation tools such as Power Query, Power BI, etc.
