Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) Cape Town, Western Cape SANCCOB is a leading seabird conservation non-profit organisation which seeks to employ a Conservation Impact Manager to join their energetic and dedicated team based in Cape Town on a full-time basis. This newly created position will play a critical role in supporting seabird conservation by providing the frameworks, approaches, and activities for SANCCOB to maximise its impact and achieve the organisation's conservation strategy. The Conservation Impact Manager is a key member, reporting to the Head of Conservation who directs SANCCOB's conservation strategic objectives.
The Conservation Impact Manager will manage the African Penguin and Seabird Ranger Project, including developing protocols, providing training, designing an efficient and useful data collection tool, whilst fully integrating efforts with the conservation authorities. The portfolio will also include the coordination of SANCCOB's internal sustainability practices and working with SANCCOB's conservation team to plan and mitigate incidents relating to seabird threats.
Responsibilities and Scope Manage all aspects of the African Penguin and Seabird Ranger Project, including stakeholder engagement and fundraising to maintain and expand the project.Ensure effective and streamlined seabird data collection and analysis.Oversee monitoring activities including nest checks, breeding success, predation, disease, and effects of a changing climate.Effectively advocate for the protection of seabirds and their marine environment, including but not limited to food availability, maritime development, and industry expansion.Influence change in policy to protect seabirds and mitigate the multiple threats to seabirds and their marine environment.Collaborate with other conservation NGOs to ensure effective and joint campaigning and messaging.Ensure that SANCCOB's conservation impact is measured annually.Act as the liaison between SANCCOB and conservation management authorities, and SANCCOB and donors of the project.Ensure that MoU agreements are in place and agreed deliverables are tracked and evaluated accordingly.Participate in webinars, conferences, and other opportunities for sharing research findings.Ensure that training materials are in line with internationally recognised standards and SANCCOB approved standard operating procedures.Oversee the colony transponder monitoring mechanism.Professional report writing.Provide formal recommendations to management authorities on mitigation measures and conservation interventions.Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in conservation sciences, environmental sciences, or related field and at least 4 years related experience, or equivalent combination. Candidates with a master's degree in conservation sciences, environmental sciences, or related field and at least 5 years related experience or equivalent combination preferred A qualification and experience in environmental law an advantage.
Abilities and Experience Requirements Strong project management skills with excellent attention to detail.Experience in data gathering and interpretation.Experience facilitating meetings, project/program objectives and workshop design.Experience with producing impact reports or similar.Ability to work well in a highly matrixed and collaborative organisation. Possesses strong interpersonal skills and is politically savvy. Must be a team player.Self-starter capable of proactively delivering on requirements.Ability to develop and drive new ideas and approaches.Ability to work in a multicultural and multidisciplinary context.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet time sensitive deadlines.Critical and analytical thinking and excellent English writing skills are essential.Ability to communicate clearly.Ability to quickly explore and decide on solutions to complex issues which may arise.Experience managing complex projects or strategic initiatives alongside governmental partners.Experience developing and/or implementing species plans or activities.Other Requirements Available to travel locally and internationally at short notice.Valid driver's license.Willing to receive identified and necessary vaccinations.Physically fit and able to work in inclement weather conditions.South African citizen or valid work permit.Please forward CV with at least 2 contactable references (max. 3 pages) and a letter of motivation to ****** .
