Main purpose of the job:
Leveraging advanced mathematical, computational, AI techniques to support the assessment of databases of images, recordings and multiple repeat vital sign measures, to enhance predictive accuracy of wearables, and TB and HIV diagnostics
Location:
PHRU - Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Soweto - Johannesburg
Key performance areas:
Analyze large databases of various types that could include – demographic data, x-images in DICOM format, other images, and repeat vital signs measures
Create simulations of these databases to enlarge their capacity for machine learning
Collaborate with academic partners and with other internal and external stakeholders
Code to provide cyclical and real time analyses of key metrics for specific studies or projects
Contribute actively to planning and drafting of manuscripts and other dissemination of research, and engagements with stakeholders such as government departments, research networks, universities/academic institutions, and funders
Research conference preparations
Assisting in integrating optimization algorithms and ensuring the optimization runs smoothly
AI Model Integration - Develop AI-driven tools to automatically generate model outputs and scenarios based on different intervention strategies and public health inputs, tailored to requests from the national government, funders, and other stakeholders
Required minimum education and training:
Either in the 2nd year of a Master' Degree or having completed – awaiting graduation or having a Master's level Computational Mathematics; Computer Science with Mathematics; or Electrical and Information Engineering or equivalent
Required minimum work experience:
2-3 Years' experience in analyzing large datasets
Experience in developing and optimizing mathematical models AI/ML algorithms and computational optimization
Strong proficiency in Python, or other relevant programming languages implementing AI techniques
Experience with machine learning algorithms
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
Experience with cloud-based AI tools for large-scale data processing and model deployment
Familiarity with data visualization tools for presenting complex model outputs to diverse audiences
Willing to travel
