Main Purpose Of The JobTo implement and deliver communications content for multiple VIDA projectsTo support the Head of Communications in driving impact across all the unit's channels, writing impactful communications and managing day-to-day social media channels, the VIDA website and internal communicationsLocation:11th Floor West Wing, Nurses Residence, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Soweto - JohannesburgKey Performance AreasFacilitate Effective Organizational CommunicationGather information, research, copywrite or review, edit, and proofread external and internal communication material including website content, advertisements, posters, brochures, newsletters, internal communiques and video scripts, etc., and obtain approval for the dissemination of communication material. This will entail liaising with internal clients, team members and other appropriate departments and with external service providersAssist with developing, implementing and coordinating communications activities in support of the Unit's initiatives, programmes and eventsCompile daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual communications reportsBuild and Maintain Relationships with MediaDevelop and implement a proactive media outreach strategyAssist with copywriting media releases, holding statements, media responses and media articlesAssist with arranging filming at organisation's facilities by the media, as well as by external entities other than the media, including compiling all required documentationBuild relationships with the media by responding timeously to media queriesObtain input from internal stakeholders to ensure information is relevant, accurate and up to dateSocial Media ManagementMaintain existing social media platforms and research, develop and implement other appropriate social media platforms that would benefit the organisation from a communication perspectiveAssist with developing a social media policy, standard operating procedures, toolkit and practical guidelines as and when requiredProactively plan, implement and monitor social media campaigns, and liaise with internal stakeholders to compile and upload material for such campaignsCapitalise on ad hoc, externally driven social media opportunities which could benefit the organisationScience, Health Writing and CommunicationsRewrite scientific information into accessible and scientifically accurate content for internal and external communicationsBuild relationships with various researchers within the Institute and liaise with them to ensure accuracy in all contentParticipate in writing training sessions for the Institute on science and health communication mattersCompile training material as requiredWebsite Development and AdministrationCollaborate with team members, IT and external service providers to further develop and enhance Wits RHI's websites, explore creative ideas for increasing traffic to these websites and facilitating search engine optimisationWork on content development and updating of information on all Wits RHI websites including liaison with stakeholders, copywriting, photo selection, proofreading, obtaining approval and liaison with IT to upload materialResearch website trends and changes in browser behaviour as and when requiredEffective Self-Management and Performance OwnershipTake ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-managementFollow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintainedMaintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedbackTake ownership for driving own career development by participating and attending ongoing training and development activities such as workshops, forums, conferences, etc.Required Minimum Education And TrainingDegree in Communications, Journalism or related fieldRequired Minimum Work Experience5 years' experience of communications in academic, science and/or NGO environmentMinimum 4 years' writing (academic or journalistic)Digital media experienceDesirable Additional Education, Work Experience And Personal AbilitiesAdvanced writing skillsExperience within the NGO or Academic InstituteA creative, dynamic and diligent and focused individual, with exceptional writing skills and excellent attention to detailDemonstrable experience in journalism and/or communications and a passion for science, health and digital communicationsDemands Of The JobOvertime and travelling might be required from time to timeCommunications And RelationshipsMaintain effective working relationships and open communication with staff, senior management, caregivers, NGOs, donors, media, service providers and other stakeholdersTo ApplyOnly if you do meet the minimum job requirements and experience as mentioned above, you may submit a detailed updated CV.Please Apply Online and complete your registration on Ditto Hire (our application tracking system) to enable and protect you as a candidate to accept the new POPIA terms and conditions.
