Santam's Intermediated Business' division currently has an exciting opportunity available for a Commercial Online Underwriter (COE), who will be based within the Online Broker department. (Johannesburg)
What will you do?Work in this job family stream is concerned with managing commercial risk by providing specialist technical underwriting advice. COE is a highly technical role with strong client focus. The key focus is on underwriting new and existing business to maintain profitability while also creating a platform to aid the growth process. COE's are responsible for taking sound underwriting decisions through mandates and taking initiative. The COE is a key source of knowledge and leverage to the business at large. COE is the gate keeper of the health of the risk.
What will make you successful in this role?Effective underwriting of complex risks (new business, renewals, ad-hoc)Identifying re-insurance and appropriate actionEffective screening actionsProviding quality and correct feedback on high level technical queriesWorking within higher level mandatesOwnership of non-standard commercial productsNegotiating with internal and external clientsBuilding and maintaining relationships at various levels within the organisation including CCC, Distribution and HO underwritingStrong retention (profitability and growth) focusQUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE A minimum of 6 years underwriting experience within a short-term Commercial insurance industry required.Grade 12IISA professional membership (licentiate / associate)FAIS compliant: 120 credits on NQF level 5 (Commercial Lines)Proficiency in MS Word and ExcelSantam Commercial product training (SMK's)Regulatory Examination (RE)Extensive commercial short-term insurance knowledgeRisk Identification and Assessment programme (RIA)A good understanding of contact centre processes, SLA's and commercial quoting tools.SKILLS Good communication and negotiation skillsProficient in Afrikaans and EnglishStrong client service orientationStrong analytical skillsAbility to work under pressureStrong sense of self-managementStrong relationship building and network skills (internal and external parties)COMPETENCIES Delivering results and meeting client expectationsAbility to cope with conflicting demands and to prioritise tasksAbility to influenceEnterprising and commercial thinkingDeciding and initiating actionRelating and networkingAnalysingApplying expertise and technologyAchieving personal work goals and objectivesResearchingPlanning and organisingWriting and reportingFollowing instructions and proceduresBuild a successful career with usWe're all about building strong, lasting relationships with our employees.
