SAHARA is the sub-recipient of the NACOSA Global Fund Adolescent & Young People (AYP) programme grant (2022 – 2025) to address HIV, TB, and GBV within the Garden Route.
Youth development through safe spaces aims to radically reduce new HIV/Aids, STIs and TB infection rates and achieve the 95 / 95 / 95% strategy of knowing your status, having HIV+ people on ARVs, and reducing viral load. This is achieved through the enrolment, risk assessment, and development of a service delivery plan for AYP aged 15 – 24, along with referrals for biomedical services and HIV testing.
The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for leading a clinical team at several sites in and around George. This includes mentoring, clinical supervision, and upskilling staff, as well as coordinating and chairing meetings internally and with other stakeholders representing SAHARA. Responsibilities also include preparing SOPs, quality assurance, monitoring, evaluation, and strategic planning.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
Degree or Diploma in Nursing
Registration with South African Nursing Council
Extensive experience in HIV/AIDS treatment and care
NIMART, IMCI, QI, PMTCT and APC/ PACK trained
Clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment
Other requirements:
Excellent knowledge of HIV, TB, SRH, and STI prevention approaches and DOH screening guidelines
An understanding of the challenges facing AYP in the health context and an ability to communicate and work well with AYP in the provision of health services.
An in-depth understanding and knowledge of legislative requirements, acceptable practices, and procedures.
Computer literate in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Report-writing skills
High-level planning and organisational skills
Good communication skills
Good interpersonal skills, including being a team player
Demonstrate strong professional attitude and behaviour at all times
Ability to work non-traditional hours which may include weekends from time to time
Willingness to travel as and when required.
Required experience:
At least three years' experience in working in a Primary Health Care setting
At least two years full training experience/human capacity building
Extensive experience in HIV/AIDS, STI and TB treatment and care
A minimum of 2 years community nursing experience
A minimum of 1 years' experience working with AYP will be an advantage
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership:
Oversee all implementation of the "My Journey" programme and biomedical interventions in the Garden Route Sub-District
Direct line manager of the biomedical clinical field team
Identify all training needs for all staff categories
Submit skills audit to NACOSA Clinical Nurse Mentor
Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
Act as a role model to clients during the Mentor stage
Attend all NACOSA's relevant meetings
2. Company Strategic Intent:
Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures according to prescribed procedures and legislation
Report all unsafe activities to Senior Management/Human Resources
Adhere to all Company Management SOP's, Guidelines, and Agreements
Implement SOP and guidelines
3. Mentoring and Technical Tasks:
Support Registered Nurse in the implementation of case management tool
Monitor weekly reporting of tools submitted to M & E
Report tool monthly to NACOSA Clinical Nurse Mentor
Guide and support Nurses in implementing NIMART to beneficiaries
Manage Service Delivery Indicators and Quality Improvement Initiatives
Provide support to Technical Specialists doing training and mentoring
4. Quality Assurance:
Keep abreast with new clinical developments e.g. training, in-service training, reading journals, policies, and procedures related to job
Set goals, objectives, and interventions for quality service delivery
Ensure all medical equipment is in working order, adhering to Health and Safety and Infection Control Policies and Procedures
Implement Rapid Test Continuous Quality Improvement: Independent Quality Control and Proficiency Testing for HIV RDTs
Make themselves available for NACOSA clinical team regarding clinical compliance tool (Baseline, midterm, and exit assessments)
5. Guidance, Clinical Support & Health Awareness:
Demonstrate and explain procedures related to testing and treatment, medical waste disposal, drugs/medication dosages
Monitor execution and implement corrective measures to rectify deviations and mitigate risk
Communicate and make available information and advice on preventative and promotive approaches to health care e.g. HIV/TB/SRH, particularly in the context of the programme
6. Monitoring & Evaluation:
Understand the M & E process and indicators
Data collection & capacity to use data collection tools
Report to PM
