We are committed to providing quality representation for our clients and bringing about long-term change in the justice system.Position Overview:NAAJA's civil section provides legal support and representation to Aboriginal clients in various practice areas including police accountability, child protection, adult guardianship, consumer issues, discrimination, tenancy, social security, and victims of crime assistance claims.Client Service Officers (CSOs) in the Civil Section support clients through their legal issues and help them engage with their lawyer. The role involves coordinating travel to remote communities for civil law clinics and related administrative tasks.Extensive cultural knowledge and/or demonstrated cultural competency, along with sensitivity to vulnerable clients' needs, are essential for this role.DUTIES:Engage with and support clients in person and over the phone in a culturally appropriate manner.Organise and facilitate remote legal service delivery, including travel arrangements.Maintain accurate client data using NAAJA's management systems.Prepare documents and assist legal processes under direction from lawyers.Assist with general administrative duties for the civil team.Any other duties as required.Key Selection Criteria:Good written and oral communication skills, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.Experience in a busy office environment, including phone systems and Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to provide a high level of client service.Ability to liaise with other agencies and develop community networks.Ability to work as part of a small team to meet deadlines.Highly Desirable:A general knowledge of the legal system in the Northern Territory.A high-level understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.Appointment subject to:Valid work rights within Australia.National Criminal history check.Working With Children Clearance (Ochre Card).Driver Licence (Class C).Ability to travel remotely and stay overnight.Hours of Work:37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with 1 hour lunch and approved overtime accruing as TOIL.Salary Packaging:NAAJA can offer up to $18,450.15 per annum of the salary as a tax-free fringe benefit (Conditions Apply).Leave:Annual leave: 6 Weeks per annum with 17.5% leave loading.Personal leave: 3 weeks per annum.Paid Ceremonial Leave.Superannuation:11.50% and increasing in line with the Superannuation Guarantee.How to Apply:Applicants must address the selection criteria in their written application, which should be sent to ****** and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and the posting will remain open until a suitable candidate is appointed.
