Our client, operating within the construction/ mining industry is looking to appoint a Civil Supervisor to join their team for a 3-6-month contract based in Mpumalanga.Requirements5 - 7 years' relevant working experience as a Civil Supervisor.Previous experience working on dam line projects.Relevant civil / construction qualification (Preferably a National Civil Engineering Diploma or relevant Civil Engineering Degree).Experience in day-to-day management of contractors.Quality control and assurance on construction projects.Construction supervision.Contract management.Construction of contracts on mines.Progress monitoring and management.Working knowledge of environmental compliance.Duties & ResponsibilitiesWeekly progress report to Kumba Contracts Specialist and the Project manager.Mentoring and training of the contractors.Study and understand the legal appointments and responsibilities applicable to this project.Assist the Kumba safety officer with technical aspects in the approval of the contractor's safety file.Assist with the identification and reporting of risks on the project.Assist in developing and reporting on mitigation plans.Be present at the daily safety toolbox talks.Take immediate and appropriate action if unsafe work practices are witnessed on site.Study the contractual scope of work and construction drawings.Monitor the activities to ensure that the contractor only constructs the scope of work as set out in the contract.Manage the re-measurable quantities in-line with the bill of quantities.Ensure red-lined drawings are correctly marked up and transmitted to the company.Ensure the contractor controls the quality on the project as set out in the approved quality control plan by witnessing and inspecting the work and signing off on the relevant contractor's documentation.Receive the quality documentation on a weekly basis from the contractor, sign off and file the documentation electronically on the Aconex document control system.Monitor and manage the progress of the work in accordance with the contractual schedule by verifying that the daily planned quantities are placed/constructed.Ensure the contractor submits an updated schedule with all the relevant information to monitor progress on a weekly basis.Continuous review of the schedule to ensure the construction sequence is correct.Monitor, review, and manage the critical path and near-critical paths on the schedule by informing the Contractor of slippages and by requesting recovery action/plans.The driving of recovery actions/plans to claw back on lost time.Monitor and check that the planned equipment, supervisors, and labours are available/present and working on the site.Chair weekly onsite progress meetings and keep minutes.Do not allow any additional scope to be constructed without official approval.Review the contractor's method statements and make suggestions to optimize the working methods.Proactively manage the interfaces between project management, engineering, SHE, procurement, the contractors, and other relevant parties to ensure planned progress is achieved.Ensure that the contractor raises Field Engineering Queries for problems that cannot be resolved on site.The issuing of site instruction when required for continuous operation. Site instructions to be only issued as stipulated in the project Delegation of Authority.Facilitate the contractor to obtain excavation and other permits.Use only Aconex for filing and transmitting of documentation and communication.Manage the handover/commissioning in line with the handover/commissioning plan.Sign off on all handover/commissioning documentation.Arrange all switching activities with the relevant personnel/client/authorities.Working Hours07h00 to 16h00 on weekdays and 07:00 to 12:00 on Saturdays.It will be a requirement to work overtime from time to time when due dates must be met.Desired SkillsCivil SupervisorConstructionMiningCivil EngineeringDesired Work Experience5 to 10 years
