Chief Flight Instructor (Rotary Wing) – Germiston.
Job Summary:
This schedule constitutes the primary duties and functions of the employee and forms an integral part of the Employment Agreement, although alternative duties, assignments and projects may be afforded to the employee.
Furthermore, Annexure A may be amended from time to time as may be required by the Company.
Duties and Responsibilities:
COMPANY PILOT:

Flying Duties:

Helicopter ferrying;
Post maintenance acceptance flights;
Tracking of helicopters inflight defects and flight parameters;
Flight demonstrations with clients (both fixed and rotary wing as per your ratings);
Ensuring Company helicopter accessories are in the helicopters and current (first aid kit, dual controls, headsets, fire extinguishers, wheels and handles, documentation, radio licenses, etc.).

Operate helicopters on Company's contracts such as: crop spraying, game work, charters, photography, security, etc. as per AOC.
Provide training (ab-initio and advanced) on company aircraft through an appropriate ATO.
Assist in helicopter and aircraft sales, for which a commission arrangement will be made prior to the conclusion of the deal, on a case by case basis.

CHIEF PILOT:

The Chief Pilot is responsible to the Responsible Person: Flight Operations for the co-ordination and control of all flight operations.
He supervises crew scheduling and exercise control over discipline and deployment of flight crew members. He ensures that flight crew do not exceed flight and duty time periods by incorrect scheduling and compares the actual flight and duty time to the scheduled programme at the end of each month. He verifies the hours flown by the flight crew and certifies such hours by signing the logbook of each crew member on an annual basis.
He is responsible for ensuring the optimum utilisation of flight crew to meet operational requirements.
He liaises with the Responsible Person: Flight Operations to ensure that all flight crew members comply with the respective requirements of the CARs.
He ensures that route proficiency checks, six monthly proficiency flight tests and instrument rating renewals are carried out. He checks flight training records and countersigns documents as proof of verification.
The Chief Pilot together with the Responsible Person: Flight Operations are responsible for the general welfare and morale of the personnel within the Flight Operations Department.
He is responsible for advising the Responsible Person: Flight Operations of procedures that could contribute to safer and/or more economical and efficient operation of aircraft.
He assists the Responsible Person: Flight Operations in the maintenance of operating standards.
The Chief Pilot will nominate one of the pilots to be in command for each flight or series of flights.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT:

Building relationships and networking resulting in new students and aircraft sales.
Developing and increasing the customer base in-and-out of South Africa.
Responsible for the satisfaction of clients or customers by ensuring excellent customer service and quality delivery.
Building relationships and networking with customers and aircraft owners
Sourcing and developing the sales side of the flying cadet program, individual students, flight contracts and increasing the number of students learning to fly and flying activities.
Actively involved in canvassing and sourcing clients who are interested in purchasing aircraft worldwide.

CHIEF FLYING INSTRUCTOR (ROTOR WING AIRCRAFT):
The Chief Flying Instructor (Rotor Wing) shall be the holder of a valid Grade I or Grade II flight instructor rating in the category of aircraft operated by the ATO and be responsible to ensure that Responsibilities:

All training staff are versed in the content of the ATO training and procedures manual.
All training is carried out in accordance with the ATO Training Plan and that relevant regulations are complied with.
The flight, flight simulator and theoretical training syllabi and ATO curriculum is adhered to as described in Parts 6 , 7 and 8 Below
Records are kept in accordance with Part 10 Below.
The flight authorisation book as required in CATS 141 is comprehensively completed and controlled in accordance with the ATO training and procedures manual.
A high standard of flying discipline is maintained in accordance with the policy prescribed in the ATO Flight training manual.
Oversight is carried out over Grade III instructors to uphold training standards and mentor instructors in preparation for a Grade II by:

Allocation of instructors to students and training flights.
Briefing of instructors on exercise to be carried out, recap on instructional techniques, common errors that may be expected from students and safety respects.
Regular monitoring of the pre-flight and after flight briefings.
Evaluate instructor progress in relation to student progress.
Monitoring and implementing staff flight training in order to assess if training is meeting the ATO and regulatory requirements prescribed in Part 4 below. Oversight of students training with reference to:
Student progress, records (Part 10) and maintenance of student training files
Training plan (Part 5)
Flight training syllabus (Part 6)
Flight simulator training syllabus (Part 7)
Theoretical knowledge syllabus (Part 8)
Test and checks (Part 9)

Co-ordinates and controls flight training OPERATIONS.
Maintains flying standards.
Ensures standardisation and flight techniques among flight training personnel.
Conducts and controls proficiency checking requirements on behalf of the organisation with regard to all initial and periodic flight training including subsequent route competency and instrument rating checks.
Ensures that training files and complete documentation records are maintained for each individual flight crew member.
Ensures that training reports are to be counter-signed by the crew member concerned.
Ensures that training and competency checking requirements are completed with minimum disruption to the normal flight training operations.
Ensures that all CAR requirements with respect to the renewal or upgrading of pilot licenses have been timeously complied with.
Benchmark closely with other training organisations and submits recommendations that may serve to enhance OPERATIONS training capability and/or procedures.
Co-ordinates aircraft scheduling daily with the Responsible Person, Flight Operations and maintenance personnel.
Co-ordinate invigilation of computerised exams by making use of accredited personnel under controlled circumstances to ensure the legality of exams written for licence purposes.

CHIEF PILOT / CHIEF INSTRUCTOR:

The Chief Flying Instructor / Chief Pilot shall also be part of the selections / recruitment committee for new pilots to be employed or to be contracted, putting his view or veto on potential candidates on record.
The Chief Flying Instructor / Chief Pilot also advises the operations personnel which pilot is to be rostered for which respective client or charter, according to his judgement of the pilots capabilities.
