The Central Maintenance team is searching for a Chief Fire Officer to join our business located in Richards Bay, KZN.Reporting to the Technical & Risk Manager, the Chief Fire Officer is required to plan, organize, manage, and implement fire prevention measures, take command of fire and emergency situations. The successful incumbent will need to take responsibility for the overall contractual management of the fire operations, emergency medical, and fire maintenance vendors via the senior officers who report to him/her.Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe Chief Fire Officer is responsible for the planning and management of the following activities:Respond to and manage fire, Hazmat, and medical incidents/emergencies on the site, deploying internal and external resources where required.Conduct fixed and portable fire equipment inspections/maintenance including risk mitigation.Perform fire investigations.Mitigate high fire risk maintenance work.Manage operational and maintenance expenses related to the emergency team.Conduct job observations/behavioral-based audits/engagement board sessions.Plan actions derived from drills/audits/incidents.Review and continuously improve existing emergency procedures and policies.Review and update emergency training requirements for the mill and department as required.Ensure legal compliance of emergency equipment.Plan emergency response drills and training exercises.Manage emergency equipment licenses and certifications.Oversee capital equipment replacements and upgrades related to the emergency team as well as fixed fire systems within the mill.Engage with local authorities and industries for cross-training/drills.Accountable for the readiness of the emergency response team.Accountable for the readiness of emergency response equipment and installations.Accountable for emergency response/readiness engagements with local authorities and neighboring communities.Implement fire prevention strategies, including hot work control.Desired Experience & QualificationQualifications & ExpertiseNational diploma in Fire Engineering or related field.Intermediate Life Support Paramedic (advantageous).Basic life support paramedic (minimum).Supervisory or Management Qualification.Registered with the HPCSA– BLS Paramedic.C1 Driver's License.Professional Driving Permit.Fire Prevention and Safety Strategies.Incident Commander.Snake identification/bite treatment and snake handling.Advanced Industrial Fire Fighting.Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems such as SAP.Knowledge of fixed fire detection/suppression system testing/inspection/maintenance regimes.Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.Familiarity with ISO 14001 and 45001 (advantageous).Job Experience10 years experience in industrial/Municipal Fire Services in a supervisory/management capacity.5 years experience performing an emergency response function – firefighter/paramedic.
