Chemotherapy Head Nurse, Oncology Practice PretoriaOur client, a Specialist Oncologist based in Pretoria, is seeking to recruit an Oncology Chemotherapy Nurse who will attend to all the necessary responsibilities with professionalism and excellent patient care.Responsibilities:Greet and assist patients in a courteous and kind manner, whether in person or telephonically.Oversee the day-to-day operations of the chemotherapy unit, including scheduling, staffing, and resource management.Administer chemotherapy treatments and other intravenous medications in accordance with established protocols and guidelines.Monitor patients during chemotherapy sessions, assessing for adverse reactions and providing appropriate interventions as needed.Educate patients and their families about chemotherapy treatment plans, potential side effects, and self-care strategies.Collaborate with oncologists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized treatment plans and optimize patient outcomes.Assist in developing and revising patient information documents.Obtain and follow up on medical aid authorizations.Coordinate and manage other registered nurses within the chemotherapy unit.Chemotherapy room responsibilities include: Cannulation skills, vascular access device skills, calculation of drug dosage, chemotherapy mixing, chemotherapy administration, managing of adverse chemotherapy reactions, management of expired damaged or contaminated drugs, chemotherapy prescription standards, chemotherapy labelling, issuing and transportation, chemotherapy mixing register, management of extravasation, reporting chemotherapy adverse drug events, basic life support, stocking emergency trolley, familiar with chemotherapy drugs and common side effects.Billing responsibilities include: Correct capturing for billings daily, ordering of necessary consumables, submitting and confirming medical aid authorization.Quality assurance: Participate in continuous practice quality improvement activities, manage patient compliments and complaints.Safety awareness and risk management: Practice infection prevention and control, adhere to sharps protocol, maintain a therapeutically clean and safe working environment, record chemotherapy adverse events, adhere to medical waste management protocol, check emergency trolley equipment, ensure compliance with legislation, POPIA, and policy protocols, ensure appropriate resources to prevent treatment delay.Continued professional development: Keep up to date with practice policies and procedures, assist in mentoring and training of junior staff, participate in unit academics, ensure improvement of knowledge, skills, and attitudes relevant to oncology practice, practice safely and ethically.Qualifications:3 to 5 years of clinical experience in oncology nursing.Minimum 2 years' experience in chemotherapy administration.Enrolled/Registered Nurse.Valid registration with SANC.Certificate in Oncology will be an advantage.Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.Familiarity with e-auth / SAOC platforms will be an advantage.Skills and Attributes:Fluent in Afrikaans and English.Passionate about patient care.Kind, caring, and compassionate.Professionalism.Intuitive.Ability to multitask.Excellent communication skills.Good time management.Excellent organisational skills.Attention to detail.Quality-focused.A drive to do more and to make a difference.Problem solver.Productive.Integrity and honesty.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment.Working Hours:Monday to Friday, 07h30 - 16h00 (with occasional overtime if the practice demands).Appointment:ASAPOnly candidates who meet all the minimum requirements stipulated in the advert will be considered.
