CLOSING DATE: 28 November 2024 PURPOSE: Provide engineering, technology and technical support in order to ensure continuous OB Broadcast services delivery in accordance with SABC and Industry standards, requirements and expectations. The role is responsible for the upkeep, upgrades and specialized technical maintenance and related projects for all Outside Broadcast fleet and related facilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF STRATEGY: Interpretation of tactical needs to enhance and promote technology infrastructures and customer user requirements and specifications.Investigate and interpret business requirements in accordance with functional requirements, workflows and international best practices.Investigate and implement latest/up to date technologies to maintain BU competitiveness within industry.Managed Projects.Capex and Opex involvement to input into the project scope development.Monitor project/s completion on time and within constraints.Assist with project implementation, guide and drive migrations and workflow to deliver on functional requirements and avoid on-air disruptions.BUSINESS OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY: Finance Motivations.Proper investigation & acceptable explanation of budget for motivation.Accurate calculation and submission of Capex & Opex inputs into budget.Opex motivation submissions to ensure maintenance and systems sustainability.Minor Capex motivation submissions to ensure new requirements are addressed.Asset Management.Updated Asset Register maintained as per Company Asset Management policy.BROADCAST OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY: Ensure compliance with broadcasting regulations and standards related to signal strength, interference, and safety protocols.
Response time to match urgency for technical assistance in accordance with delivery requirements.Effective technical advice & support to users in order to reduce downtime.Compliance of upgrades with vendor specifications.Virus free, secure, functional, streamlined and reliable servers.Establish and sustain compatibility & integration between servers/workstations.Ongoing assessment of system functionality through logs & system checks.Proper analysis of daily fault reports to identify & address non-compliance.Technical inputs & specifications to support procurement of correct equipment/software.Prevent re-occurring tasks by applying high quality workmanship.Monthly system restart & database failover tests to promote reliable system resilience and ensure full functional backup/redundant server/equipment in place at all times.Daily monitoring of report logs/equipment against checklist to determine system health/availability.Monthly maintenance/system health report/Antivirus Status.Daily/Monthly backup of all system data in line with Broadcast Continuity.Compliance of maintenance with vendor specifications & system requirements.Daily/Monthly proactive system health checks against checklist & replacement of faulty components.Quarterly review/update of all technical documentation.GOVERNANCE, RISK AND COMPLIANCE: Procurement of correct equipment/software in line with customer requirements & Company Procurement policy & procedures.Escalated Risks findings reported with treatment plans.Monitor adherence to OHS.Compliance with SABC Policies & Procedures.Maintain and conduct discipline in accordance with Company policies & procedures.Compliance with vendor software licenses.SOP developments to ensure Broadcast Continuity.Ensure Workflow and Drawing accuracy.Daily shift and monthly reporting of faults, tasks and status progress of deliverables with risks and red flag escalations.Develop and provide inputs into Business continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans.Technical SCM support for project process (BSC, BEC, BAC).Ensure software licenses are kept up to date.STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT: Customers served in a technically proficient, friendly and helpful manner.Monitor compliance of services rendered with customer requests and address non-conformance.Technical assistance & guidance to customers regarding the capability of facilities and to provide best alternative options.No unattended customer requests/complaints.Technical support and advice to customers regarding facilities, workflows and operations.HUMAN RESOURCES OPERATIONS & DEVELOPMENT: Managed Individual & Team.Compliance with performance management policies and procedures.Performance agreements with manager annually.Formal reviews conducted with manager and documented as per deadlines (Quarterly).Individual coaching, counselling and mentoring conducted on an ongoing basis to meet individual team members' needs.Monitor and develop individual & team competence to set standards.Submit annual competency assessment to manager for compilation of Career Development Plan (CDP).Submit annual training needs to manager for inclusion in WSP within specified time frame.Compliance with all compulsory HR requirements: e.g., Timeous submission of DOI's.Training & Development.Preparation of material, content, visuals & handouts, when required to conduct training on SME basis.Monthly review of all standard operating procedures.Continuous assessment of learners as per SAQA Act.Stay updated with technological advancements in broadcasting equipment and techniques.QUALIFICATIONS: B-Tech in Electrical Engineering (Light Current/Computer Studies).
EXPERIENCE: 10 years broadcast experience, 5 years in supervisory or specialist level.
5 years practical experience in signal transmission and connectivity field.
KNOWLEDGE: Practical knowledge of broadband connectivity and streaming technologies.Knowledge and understanding of IT principles.Radio frequency and software expertise.Understanding of wireless network devices and use of radio waves.Advanced knowledge of telecommunication systems and digital signal processing.Advanced understanding of SABC broadcast operations.Good understanding of equipment and facilities within broadcasting production environment.Understanding of broadcasting standards.Advanced understanding of customer requirements.Providing technical and operational support and advice.
