Job Summary:Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations.
This role involves handling complex bookkeeping tasks, such as reconciliations, payroll management, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
The Bookkeeper will work closely with management to provide insights that support financial decision-making.Key Responsibilities:Financial Record Maintenance: Accurately record and manage all financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations.Financial Reporting: Prepare detailed financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, analyzing financial data to provide insights and recommendations for cost-saving measures.Payroll Management: Process payroll accurately and on time, including tax calculations, benefit deductions, and compliance with labor laws.Tax Preparation and Compliance: Assist in the preparation of tax returns, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
Liaise with external accountants for year-end tax filings.Audit Preparation: Prepare documentation and reports for internal and external audits, ensuring all financial records are accurate and up-to-date.Reconciliation: Perform complex reconciliations of accounts, including bank statements, credit card statements, and inter-company accounts.Accounts Payable/Receivable: Manage vendor and customer accounts, ensuring timely payments and collections.Software Management: Utilize advanced accounting software and tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage) to manage financial data and generate reports.Cash Flow Management: Monitor and manage cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operations and strategic investments.Financial Analysis: Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas of improvement.
Provide detailed reports to management for decision-making.Compliance: Ensure that all financial activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and accounting standards (e.g., GAAP or IFRS).Training and Mentoring: Provide training and support to junior bookkeeping staff, ensuring accuracy and consistency in financial record-keeping.Special Projects: Participate in special financial projects, such as system implementations, process improvements, or mergers and acquisitions.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).Minimum of [5+] years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles, with a strong understanding of advanced accounting principles.Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage) and Microsoft Excel (advanced functions).Strong knowledge of payroll processing, tax regulations, and financial reporting.Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to manage complex financial data and identify discrepancies.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.Certification in bookkeeping (e.g., Certified Bookkeeper, CPB) or accounting (e.g., CPA, CMA) is a plus.Preferred Skills:Experience in a specific industry (e.g., construction, retail, non-profit) that aligns with the employer's business.Knowledge of international accounting practices, if applicable.Familiarity with financial regulations and reporting requirements specific to the business sector.Experience in working with external auditors and tax advisors.
