JOB TITLE: Bookkeeper – Trial Balance AREA: Witbank INDUSTRY: Mining Supplies Salary / CTC: Market related – depending on current earnings, qualifications and experience Report to: Finance Manager Job Summary: The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing reconciliations, and ensuring that the company's financial data is up-to-date.
They will manage the day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, including preparing the trial balance, and assist with financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities: Record-Keeping: Maintain and update the general ledger by recording daily financial transactions.Ensure all financial data is accurately captured in the accounting system.Reconciliations: Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial records.Reconcile accounts payable and receivable to ensure correct payment and receipt of funds.Reconcile all balance sheet accounts regularly, including debtors, creditors, and inventory.Trial Balance Preparation: Prepare the trial balance to ensure that all accounts are balanced and ready for financial reporting.Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Invoicing and Payments: Generate and issue invoices to clients.Process payments to suppliers and manage accounts payable.Follow up on outstanding invoices and manage accounts receivable.Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.Provide financial information and analysis to management as required.Tax Compliance: Assist in the preparation and submission of VAT, PAYE, and other tax returns.Ensure compliance with all tax regulations and deadlines.Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.Monitor budget variances and report on discrepancies.Audit Support: Prepare documents and records for internal and external audits.Assist auditors with any queries during the audit process.General Administrative Duties: Manage and maintain financial files and records.Assist with other administrative tasks as required by the finance department.Qualifications and Experience: Education: Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in bookkeeping, with a strong focus on reconciliations and trial balance preparation.Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Pastel, QuickBooks, Xero).Strong Excel skills.Knowledge: Understanding of accounting principles and practices.Knowledge of South African tax regulations.Key Competencies: Attention to Detail: Accuracy in financial data entry and record-keeping.Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse financial data and identify discrepancies.Organisational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills.Integrity: High level of professionalism and ethical standards.
