About the job General Manager: Export MarketsKey purpose: The General Manager: Export Markets role is responsible for executing and managing the Africa Export operation by driving business processes to achieve maximum quality, productivity, and efficiency within the company. The role is expected to formulate strategies and develop new international territories to provide innovative supply chain solutions to the company's customer in accordance with Group Strategy.
Duties and responsibilities: Contribute and take collective ownership of the development of the divisional export strategy that aligns with the group strategy and, with particular focus on the export operation and commercial outcomes.Optimise, execute, monitor & control Africa export operations through (but not limited to) implementing all agreed SOPs, processes, policies, systems and internal controls to deliver a world-class export service offering.Ensure export compliance of all freight by adhering to all export regulations and customs requirements for all export markets.Oversee the management and reconciliation of export documentation in line with SARS/Customs document requirements.Continuously evaluate and evolve effective daily, weekly, and monthly export operational reporting mechanisms to support effective decision-making and control, utilising management information systems (MIS), clean databases, and any other applicable tools.Drive export and in-country sales growth by supporting the Road Division Sales team, acting as a subject matter expert in their engagements with prospective clients.Manage client relationships for Africa export operation to ensure sustainability of accounts and continued customer satisfaction.Improve profitability and manage expenses for owned operating branches in Namibia and Zambia as well as areas serviced from RSA i.e., Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi, etc.Ensure that the Africa Export operations organisational structure is designed, resourced, and optimised to execute against the strategy as well as group and divisional requirements.Ensure active communications within the Africa Export teams and drive a high-performing, service-oriented and collaborative culture in the division, between divisions, and support functions.Develop a highly skilled and engaged workforce within the functional area through the effective selection, onboarding, development, and management of talent.Drive continuous improvement within the area of accountability whilst ensuring compliance with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.Qualifications and experience: B.Com (Supply Chain Management / Transport Economics).7 - 10 years Supply Chain management experience in a similar sized business, of which 5 years is related to exporting freight (NOT predominately customs clearance but can have this experience in career history).Three years' experience at Senior management level.Operational Planning experience with some experience in strategic management.Broad supply chain knowledge within FMCG environments.Strong understanding of business value chains and how effective supply chains impact business strategy.High level customs clearance understanding / experience.
