The Boarding House Manager oversees the daily operations of the College and VIth Form Boarding, ensuring smooth and efficient management. Active participation in the College community is essential, and the ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to working collaboratively with both boarding staff and students.
Main Responsibilities
? Encourage a homely, friendly, and inclusive atmosphere in the Boarding House
? Foster pride in the Boarding House by ensuring cleanliness and tidiness
? Participate in the full roster program, with oversight of all events, staff and procedures
? Manage the Assistant Boarding House Manager and oversee the outsourced boarding cleaning team
? Supervise end-of-term cleaning; including carpets, furnishings, walls, windows, and high-level areas
? Ensure a clean and pleasant environment in all boarding houses throughout the term
? Work with the outsourced cleaning team leader to meet the school's standards
? Supervise the collection and redistribution of students' laundry
? Liaise with the outsourced service provider and Estate and Maintenance Manager for repairs and maintenance
? Secure students' rooms at the end of terms and prepare for holiday use or refurbishment
? Collaborate with the procurement team and Head of Finance and Operations on furnishing and maintenance improvements
? Develop a proactive approach to pastoral care and well-being of boarders and ensure an environment that encourages open and honest communication
? Prepare an annual budget and be able to work within those parameters
? Report emergencies, bullying, or inappropriate behavior to the Housemaster promptly
? Undertake general office tasks and provide administrative assistance to the Housemaster Body
? Demonstrate commitment to health and safety by complying with regulations and reporting hazards
? Be on school property during term time and events, ensuring readiness for emergencies
? Coordinate the beginning and end of terms, ensuring boarding arrangements are complete and areas are tidy
? Attend meetings as required and maintain punctuality
Minimum requirements
? Senior Certificate/Matric certificate
? At least five (5) years experience in managing staff
? Computer literate, familiar with Google, Microsoft Office Suite etc.

? Ability to work independently and as part of a team
? The candidate must demonstrate initiative and a proactive attitude in all aspects of the role, maintaining professionalism at all times.
? Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to build positive relationships and collaborate effectively with staff, students, and parents.
? The ability to plan, prioritise, and manage workloads efficiently to meet deadlines is crucial, ensuring smooth operation of boarding.
? A strong dedication to the welfare and wellbeing of children, with an understanding of safeguarding principles, is mandatory.
? The candidate should be able to work collaboratively with others, leading by example and fostering a team-oriented environment.
? The ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintaining confidentiality is vital for this role.
