Key Responsibilities : Surface and Underground Blasting : Conduct both surface and underground blasting operations in accordance with the legal requirements and best practices for safety and efficiency. Competency A : Execute surface blasting operations (open-pit mining, quarrying, construction sites) with precision, ensuring compliance with site-specific procedures. Competency B : Perform underground blasting operations, including tunnelling, shaft sinking, and other mining activities. Blast Design : Assist in the design of blasting patterns, charge calculations, and the selection of appropriate explosives based on the geological environment. Blasting Safety : Ensure compliance with all safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies. Perform pre-blast inspections, and verify safe detonation practices. Equipment Management : Properly handle and maintain blasting equipment, explosives, and accessories in accordance with regulatory standards. Documentation and Reporting : Maintain accurate records of blasting operations, including times, locations, quantities of explosives used, and any incidents or variances from the blast plan. Team Collaboration : Work closely with other mining and construction teams, including engineers and safety officers, to ensure coordinated and safe blasting operations. Risk Management : Identify potential risks associated with blasting activities and implement mitigation strategies. Requirements : Competency A Certification: Required for surface blasting activities, such as open-pit mining, quarries, and road construction. Competency B Certification: Required for underground blasting , including mining, tunnelling, and excavation projects. Blasting Ticket or equivalent certification in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act . A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in blasting operations (both surface and underground). Knowledge of explosive materials , blast design, and safe handling practices. Understanding of blasting equipment and its maintenance. Strong understanding of Mine Health and Safety regulations and relevant legislation governing the use of explosives. Physically fit , able to work in confined spaces and at heights if required for underground operations. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, ensuring safe and precise blasting operations. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and management.
