Job Description
We are actively seeking an individual who can join the Fire team and be responsible for preparing technical drawings of fire protection installations / systems, as well as fire safety drawings.
Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for design and modelling of fire protection systems as well as fire safety plans.
Create and/or modify existing engineering designs and models.
Design fire protection systems for projects, perform full hydraulic calculations and have on-site coordination responsibilities to ensure a successful outcome for our customers and the company.
Coordinate and communicate with building owners, clients, architects, consultants, contractors, and project team members (internally and externally).
Ensure designs and drawings adhere to deadlines. Willingness to work extra hours above normal hours to ensure deadlines are met.
Site meetings and inspections during construction with engineers and contractors for the updating of designs and models.
Co-ordination of various services (HVAC, Fire, Electrical, Wet Services, Structural elements, etc.).
Responsible and taking ownership of designs and deliverables of tender information.
Innovation for BIM purposes and internal operational developments.
Development of BIM families.
Learning the fire safety codes and standards to implement into design drawings.
Actively keep abreast of current trends in AutoCAD/Revit developments.
Occasionally attend site and co-ordination meetings.
Perform occasional site visits, surveys and investigations for accurate, economical installation of fire protection systems.
Provide training as and when required to other staff members.
Comply with WSP's project delivery processes.

Qualifications:

National Diploma or equivalent.
MDOP Certificate – N4 & N5.
At least 5 years' experience in the consulting and building industry.
Minimum 4 years' experience working on Revit MEP up to latest version.
Good knowledge and experience with fire protection systems and their design.
Good understanding of fire safety of a building, as per SANS 10400-part T.
Understanding of equipment and service co-ordination of the fire reticulation systems.
Specification of equipment and detailing thereof.
Ability to co-ordinate with other services i.e. HVAC, Fire, Structures, Electrical, Wet Services, etc.
Experience in AutoDesk products and a minimum of 4 years' experience with building information modelling (BIM) software such as Revit.

Additional Requirements:

Understanding the codes and standards (e.g. SANS 10400 Part T, ASIB, SANS 10139, NFPA, BS etc.) and transferring this into a design and a drawing.
Attention to detail and the ability to perform and understand multi service co-ordination is critical.
