Your Role at impact.com:
As a Big Data Engineer Intern, your focus will be on delivering small tasks for the squad, building and enhancing utilities, surfacing datasets, writing unit tests, performing data validation tasks, executing integration tests and interpreting results.
This role assumes that you have a basic competence writing code in one of the indicated high-level programming languages (Python, Scala) and are able to add, edit and extend existing code assets. You require practical experience working in a code version control system (VCS) (GitHub) and exposure to continuous integration (CI) and continuous development (CD) concepts is a must. You have knowledge of common database design concepts and technologies and experience interrogating datasets using at least one dialect of Structured Query language (SQL).
At this level you are not expected to have in-depth knowledge or expertise in any frameworks, technologies or programming languages, but to be able to gain a basic understanding of new concepts quickly. You will work closely with an experienced Big Data Engineer to guide and assist you in your learning path as you complete tasks as part of a data engineering squad.
What You'll Do:

Help maintain and test data load and transformation jobs to populate data lakes, data marts and data warehouses
Become familiar with Big Data Technologies
Become familiar with SQL and SQL-like database technologies
Contribute to data dictionaries and table metadata
Contribute to the development and expansion of common utility libraries used by data teams
Contribute executable Scala, Python, Groovy and SQL code to squad repositories
Assist the squad in conducting and extending data validation checks

What You Have:

Final year Bachelor's or Master's degree student in Computer Science, Data Science or related field
Experience with Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery advantageous
Basic SQL programming skills required
Intermediate Python programming skills required
Java/Scala/Kotlin programming skills advantageous
Basic knowledge of software development best practices and version control tools
Good logical thinking and problem-solving skills
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work in a team environment

This is a one month internship during the summer vacation period.
