Job Description Old Mutual Insure is looking for a passionate, solution-driven Backup Specialist who would be responsible for designing, installing, configuring, upgrading, and maintaining the storage management system, utilities, and hardware associated with the enterprise backup and recovery environment. Manage the day-to-day storage and backup operations including coordinating backup schedules, performing system restores, and participating in disaster recovery planning and exercises.
You would: Ensure that all new servers have backup solutions before going into production; this includes initiation and management of new backup requests.
Install, configure, and upgrade server and backup software.
Manage and monitor all backup schedules and provide backup and recovery support to internal IT areas and business.
Provide documented, consistent, and repeatable backup, recovery, and archival procedures.
Develop and implement business continuity practices for storage management.
Maintain and modify backup and recovery procedures to meet high availability and critical business needs.
Contribute to technical architecture discussions to determine the most appropriate scalable model taking into consideration high availability failover and disaster recovery.
Generate, review, and analyze daily, weekly, and monthly backup reports.
Identify areas to improve operational effectiveness and work with project teams to deploy/upgrade backup solutions.
Provide daily reports on the status of backup jobs and dashboards that provide visibility into the overall operation and performance of the backup environments both on-premise and cloud.
Ensure all exceptions are managed and reported on a daily basis.
Develop, implement, and track procedures for tracking off-site storage, data restoration and recovery testing, data encryption, and disaster recovery.
Maintain audit requirements for backups/restores.
Ensure success of backups and continuous backup optimization.
Experience, knowledge & skills required Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or similar.
3 – 5 years' experience with enterprise backup & recovery on-premise.
1 – 3 years' experience with enterprise backup & recovery in cloud.
3 - 5 years' experience with recovery procedures, and system monitoring tools.
Backup certification.
Practical understanding of ITIL and Cobit.
Knowledge of System Performance and Server Performance Management.
Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, 802.1x, and DHCP protocols.
Knowledge of Windows and Linux Servers.
Knowledge of Server Operations.
Knowledge of both physical and virtualized servers, especially Hyper-V and VMware.
Knowledge of Architecture and design of Backup Infrastructure.
Knowledge of AWS server workloads both physical and virtualised across the cloud native technologies will be advantageous.
Working knowledge on new generation backup tools like CommVault, Veritas, Rubrik, Veeam etc. will be advantageous.
Knowledge of SAN technology basics will be advantageous.
