They also focus on recycling and reducing the amount of material going to landfill in order to create new and more sustainable products.Purpose Of The PositionThe Automation / C&I Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing automated systems and controls for various manufacturing processes, including programming PLCs, configuring SCADA, configuring DCS, configuring VSD and integrating sensors and actuators. Leading a team of technicians, providing direction, support and training to ensure effective operation and maintenance of automated systems.Key ResponsibilitiesAnalysing production processes to identify areas for improvement and implementing automation solutions to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and increase throughput.Overseeing the maintenance of automated systems, including regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of issues to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation.Ensuring that all automation systems comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements.Managing automation projects from planning through execution, including scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating with other departments and external vendors.Monitoring and analysing data from automated systems to assess performance, identify trends, and generate reports for management.Staying updated with the latest advancements in automation technology and implementing new solutions to maintain a competitive edge.Conducting thorough root cause analysis for any system failures or production issues. Planning and coordinating maintenance activities during scheduled plant shutdowns.Management and monitoring of health, safety, environmental and quality in accordance with applicable statutory and Engineering standards.Ensuring sound and effective financial management.Building solid customer and supplier relationships (both internal and external to the organization).Developing operational implementation plans aligned to departmental objectives (Business Planning Management).Automation Engineering support to operation.Effective and efficient reporting to enable strategic decision-making.Effective people management.Delegating tasks, setting goals, and monitoring team performance.Ensuring sustainability of automation team functions (equipment, processes and team).Minimum Qualifications Required:BSc / B Eng degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering.Minimum Experience and Skills Required:Minimum of 5 years' experience in electrical/electronic engineering maintenance roles in an industrial / manufacturing environment, with exposure to the main areas of electrical engineering and automation.Advanced knowledge on Siemens PLCs (S7), VSDs, Soft Starters and DCS.Knowledge of ABB VSDs will be advantageous.Knowledge of Valmet DCS will be highly beneficial.Technical understanding of electrical / electronic systems.Required Competencies:Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills.Other Requirements:Must be willing to perform standby duties.Must have own car and driver's license.Only South African citizens will be considered.Maximum age for candidates: 45 years.Candidates will be considered based on the company's current EE requirements.Type of Role:PermanentJob Grade:DLRemuneration:R1 020 000 p.a.
