CORE PURPOSE OF JOBThe core purpose of this post is to teach Media Studies, and Film Studies (with an African focus), and to assist with Video Production, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to publish related research, within the Department of Media and Communication at Nelson Mandela University.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREASTeach modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levelsDesign and develop content for undergraduate and postgraduate modulesPromote the integration of African perspectives within, and the creative transformation of, curricula at undergraduate and postgraduate levelsSupervise postgraduate research at Masters and Doctoral levels in the fields of Media Studies, Film Studies, and/or Video Production (including Masters in Creative Media Production)Conduct innovative research and publish articles in accredited peer-reviewed academic journals, with a focus on Media Studies, Film Studies, and/or Video Production Participate in academic engagement within the university and wider communityPerform administrative duties related to departmental operations and its programsPresent workshops, seminars, public lectures, and conference papers in the fields of Media Studies, Film Studies, and/or Video ProductionCORE COMPETENCIES Advanced academic administrative skillsAdvanced theoretical understanding of key knowledge areas: Media Studies, Film Studies, and Video ProductionAdvanced understanding of research methodologies utilized in Media Studies, Film Studies, and Video ProductionCommitment to developing Africa-focused Media and Film Studies curriculaGood track record of publication in national and international accredited peer-reviewed academic journalsAbility to incorporate interdisciplinary approaches into the Departments teaching and researchAbility to teach, manage and conduct assessments for large undergraduate classesExtensive teaching, postgraduate supervision, and research experienceWillingness to apply for and manage grant fundingREQUIREMENTSA doctoral qualification in Media Studies or Film Studies, with expertise in Video or Film ProductionSuccessful supervision of postgraduate students in higher education (4-7 years)A track record of at least 10 publications in national and international accredited peer-reviewed academic journalsA minimum of 3 to 7 years of teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levelsWillingness to secure research funding and to lead research projectsNelson Mandela University reserves the right not to make an appointment.
