Job Description The candidate will be required to fulfil technical, managerial and business development functions within the Africa Water Systems team. The candidate's role will be national to support the greater team but with a strong local focus area in the Western Cape.

Line Management: The Candidate will act as a line manager and should be able to mentor, monitor timekeeping and carry out performance reviews, providing feedback on allocated technical staff. The candidate will play an active role in the technical development of the allocated team. He/she will act in a supporting role to the Associate Director of Water Systems Africa by delegating work and directing less experienced staff to complete assigned projects' technical tasks. Project Leadership: The Candidate will be required to act as a Project Manager on medium to large sized multi-disciplinary water projects. He/she must have an excellent understanding of project delivery requirements and best practice procedures. Must be well versed in project requirements such as H&S, Environmental, Quality Management and Budget Management. Will also be required to act as a Project Director on smaller to medium sized projects. Technical Leadership: The Candidate must be able to prepare technical designs and specifications related to the water systems field. A general knowledge of all sectors would be preferred e.g. water and wastewater treatment, bulk water and sanitation pipeline conveyance (pump stations and pipelines), water and sanitation network design and other associated works. The projects generally range throughout the various project stages i.e. planning / feasibility up to construction and close out. Other competencies: Must provide specialised input to studies and design within their specific area of expertise. Contributes as an in-house expert on specific technologies or processes. Identifies and develops new processes that lead to improved efficiency or work quality. Engages with project technical teams within a field of expertise. Resolves technical issues for complex problems. Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical effort/man-hours for projects. Supports the design team on technically complex projects and brings innovative design. Responsible to coordinate with the other disciplines. This includes the support of the construction supervision teams. Business Development and Client Relationship Management: The candidate must support the business development and selling initiatives to expand work assignments, including managing client relationships and expectations. Assists with proposals and participates in the development of bids and technical write-ups for proposals. Leads communication with clients to discuss work scope, requests information to support project execution and receives client comments on draft work products.
