Job Purpose:
The successful candidate will be appointed permanently in the Department as an Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer and will be appointed as a Rotational HOD in line with the rotational HOD guidelines for a 5-year period.
At the expiry of the 5-year rotational HOD appointment, the incumbent will revert back to the level at which the appointment was made on a permanent basis – Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer level, whichever level is relevant.
The Head of Department must take a leadership role within the SP & FET Department for managing, leading and providing direction to a team of academics and support staff.
Responsibilities include:
Management of the department as a member of the Faculty Executive.Ensuring that the Department and Faculty strategic goals are realized in line with the institutional strategic goals.In addition to meeting the core academic expectations, the incumbent should manage the department effectively and efficiently, in line with the CPUT policies and procedures including but not limited to:
Academic leadershipResearch managementHR staff managementFinancial managementStudent managementThe successful candidate must teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and be actively involved in research and post-graduate supervision.
Note: The position is based at the Wellington Campus where tuition is in Afrikaans.
Candidates must be able to teach in Afrikaans.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR A relevant Doctoral degree in Education in the Senior Phase and Further Education Training subject areas.A four (4) year undergraduate degree in Education/A relevant B-tech degree teaching qualification.At least six (6) years' relevant teaching experience in higher education.Record of research outputs: Publications in peer-reviewed accredited journals; presentation of papers at professional conferences.Post-graduate students supervised to completion relevant to the Education field (preferably in the field of SP & FET).Recipient of research grants and awards.Experience as an external examiner/moderator.Experience in curriculum development.Knowledge of the HEQSF processes.Proven evidence of leadership qualities.Experience in financial management and budgeting.Experience in evaluating Teaching Practice.The successful candidate must have experience in teaching aspects of Education in the SP & FET Phase programme.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: SENIOR LECTURER A relevant Doctoral qualification in Education in the Senior Phase and Further Education Training subject areas.A four (4) year undergraduate degree in Education/A relevant B-tech degree teaching qualification.At least four (4) years' relevant teaching experience in higher education.Experience in research and post-graduate supervision of students to completion.Experience in curriculum development.Proven evidence of leadership qualities.Knowledge of HEQSF process.Experience in financial management and budgeting.Experience in evaluating Teaching Practice.The successful candidate must have experience in teaching aspects of Education in the SP & FET Phase programme.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: HEAD OF DEPARTMENT A relevant Doctoral degree in Education: in the Senior Phase and Further Education Training subject areas.A four-year undergraduate degree in Education/A relevant B-tech degree teaching qualification.A minimum of five (5) years relevant experience, of which three (3) years' must be as a Senior Lecturer or above.Experience in evaluating Teaching Practice and management experience related to the functions of an HOD.Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities: Provision of leadership to the SP & FET programme.Implementation of the department and faculty strategic goals.Academic management and administration.Teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.Conducting and promoting/management of research in the department.Supervision of students during teaching practice.Curriculum and programme development.Coaching and mentoring.General Information: Closing Date: 07 February 2025
