Job Purpose: The successful candidate will be appointed permanently in the Department as an Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer and will be appointed as a Rotational HOD for a 5-year period. At the expiry of the 5-year rotational HOD appointment, the incumbent will revert back to the level at which the appointment was made on a permanent basis.
The Head of Department must take a leadership role within the SP & FET Department for managing, leading, and providing direction to a team of academics and support staff. Responsibilities include:
Management of the department as a member of the Faculty Executive.Ensure that the Department and Faculty strategic goals are realized in line with the institutional strategic goals.Manage the department effectively and efficiently, in line with CPUT policies and procedures.The successful candidate must teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and be actively involved in research and postgraduate supervision.
Minimum Requirements: Associate Professor A relevant Doctoral degree in Education in the Senior Phase and Further Education Training subject areas.A four (4) year undergraduate degree in Education/A relevant B-tech degree teaching qualification.At least six (6) years' relevant teaching experience in higher education.Record of research outputs: Publications in peer-reviewed accredited journals; presentation of papers at professional conferences.Post-graduate students supervised to completion relevant to the Education field.Recipient of research grants and awards.Experience as an external examiner/moderator.Experience in curriculum development.Knowledge of HEQSF processes.Proven evidence of leadership qualities.Experience in financial management and budgeting.Experience in evaluating Teaching Practice.Minimum Requirements: Senior Lecturer A relevant Doctoral qualification in Education in the Senior Phase and Further Education Training subject areas.A four (4) year undergraduate degree in Education/A relevant B-tech degree teaching qualification.At least four (4) years' relevant teaching experience in higher education.Experience in research and postgraduate supervision of students to completion.Experience in curriculum development.Proven evidence of leadership qualities.Knowledge of HEQSF process.Experience in financial management and budgeting.Experience in evaluating Teaching Practice.Minimum Requirements: Head of Department A relevant Doctoral degree in Education: in the Senior Phase and Further Education Training subject areas.A four-year undergraduate degree in Education/A relevant B-tech degree teaching qualification.A minimum of five (5) years relevant experience, of which three (3) years must be as a Senior Lecturer or above.Research and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Senior Lecturer or above.Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities: Provision of leadership to the SP & FET programme.Implementation of the department and faculty strategic goals.A member of the Faculty Executive, SENATE, and other faculty committees.Academic management and administration.Teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.Conducting and promoting/management of research in the department.Please Note: The appointment will be made in line with the Rotational HOD guidelines.
