The position will typically have you spend about 60% of your week reporting and about 40% of your week editing and helping to guide the newsroom in our efforts to be the quintessential news source for all of Garfield County's residents.ResponsibilitiesYour reporting would focus primarily on the municipal government and economic development. Most of the city reporter's coverage will be contained within Glenwood Springs, with an occasional ask for stories impacting Carbondale and the county's west end. This role requires a reporter who can foster and maintain professional relationships with city staff and other key figures in the area.As to the biggest issues on that beat, you'll have a lot to dig into. Our current assistant editor/senior reporter identified traffic/road safety, tensions around growth and immigration as the three biggest issues, but also noted water rights and mobile home ownership/tenant rights as likely to grow in importance over the next year.For editing, we'd plan for you to lead on designated production days, working with reporters, copy editors and designers to help get our print edition out (We print four days a week). Balancing that with reporting is no easy task, but it's a great opportunity for a seasoned reporter to step up to an editor role.QualificationsIdeally, you'd bring at least three years of prior daily reporting experience for a firm foundation from which to grow into the role.
