Description: The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Program Director (PD) for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada adult rheumatology training program. The term of the PD, Rheumatology is five years, with potential renewal for one additional term following a successful review. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the University of Toronto and will have or be eligible for an academic rank of assistant, associate or full professor. Preferred start date is July 1, 2025, with a mutually agreed upon transition/mentorship period prior to the start date.
The Program Director, Rheumatology is a leadership position, highly valued and pivotal to the overall success of the division. The Program Director is responsible for the overall conduct, organization and implementation of the training program and is accountable to the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada and reports to the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education, the Vice Chair | Education of the Department of Medicine and the Departmental Division Director for Rheumatology.
The ideal candidate is a respected clinical teacher and innovative leader with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated commitment and expertise in medical education. A track record of scholarship and innovation would be a strong asset. The successful candidate will ensure that residents are able to achieve the competencies required of all rheumatologists and that learners are developed to their fullest potential for their future careers.
Applicants must hold an MD degree, have successfully completed recognized postgraduate training in internal medicine and rheumatology and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario. Applicants must be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Rheumatology) or be eligible for equivalent Royal College certification.
The Division of Rheumatology at the University of Toronto is a dynamic and vibrant division, being central to the clinical care of complex patients at all the major teaching hospitals affiliated with the University of Toronto. The research, education, and clinical care in the Division is world-class, and the numerous hospital sites offer an unparalleled breadth and depth of training and research experiences.
The Program Director will receive an annual stipend from the Department of Medicine in the amount of $37,500 plus HST. The PD will have support from an administrative assistant, shared with the Departmental Division Director.
