Job description
To review and assess the adequacy and effectiveness of off-site deterministic and probabilistic risk assessments (Level 3) for facilities regulated by the NNR, and carry out technical assessment, and provide the necessary infrastructural support for the effective regulation of nuclear and radiation safety.
Minimum requirements NQF level 8 in Natural Sciences (Physics), Radiation Sciences or Nuclear EngineeringMinimum of 3 years regulatory experience or relevant industry experienceSafety assessment and radiation protection knowledge for Nuclear FacilitiesOff-site Radiological consequence analysis software codes knowledgeDuties and responsibilities Conduct review and assessment of safety case submission for new and/or existing nuclear facilitiesDevelopment of reports and recommendations for review by managementProvide scientific and technical services necessary to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of deterministic and probabilistic risk assessments (level 3) and radiological Off-site consequence analysis for facilities regulated by the NNRReview applicable regulatory standards, authorisations, atmospheric dispersion modelling, radiological consequence assessments and probabilistic risk assessmentsIdentifying sources of technical information related to the specific discipline and relevant work to the NNRParticipate in internal and external forums for standards developmentParticipate in various internal teams that may be formed for a particular projectResponsible for limited project in relation to Radiation Protection and Environmental safety assessmentParticipating in liaison activities for the specific disciplinesRepresent team in meetings with internal stakeholdersParticipate in the development of regulatory standards, practices and guidesParticipate in broader NNR work as required, e.g. emergency exercisesSkills and Competencies Good communication skillsTeamworkSelf-management and work planningCapability to participate in negotiationsReport writing skillsPreference will be given to candidates from the under-represented designated groups in line with the NNR Employment Equity plan
