Function Nursing Facility Empangeni Kidney & Dialysis Centre Position Acute Coordinator Introduction A vacancy exists for a Acute Coordinator based at Empangeni Kidney & Dialysis Centre, reporting to Unit Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible to make contribution and improve quality of life for all AHD patients and promote FME as the provider of choice in the region.
Critical Outputs ADMINISTRATION DUTIES Obtain patient authorizations and confirmations for dialysis by forwarding all necessary patients details to administration staff.Follow FME's policy for admission of new patient in the unit by filing in admission forms comprehensively for acute patient and entering patient into register.Providing the administration staff with information regarding changes in treatment modality or patient exit from FME by providing relevant documentation timeously.Charging for all dialysis sessions by completing charge sheets comprehensively after each dialysis session.Documenting all aspects of treatment, patient progress, observation s and conditions pre, intra and post dialysis to maintain continuity of care and to adhere to medico-legal standards.Maintaining of a job and task schedule to ensure that all hours worked and treatment provided are recorded daily in order for unit manager to check.Updating self on developments in nephrology nursing by self-study and being involved in research projects and attending lectures to obtain compulsory CPD points.Educate all patients and families about renal disease and treatment by providing them with literature to ensure co-operation.Assist in orientation of new staff in the acute team and sub- categories by verbal instruction and practical supervision.Educate all ICU and hospital staff regarding acute treatment by providing education in accordance with FME'S protocol to ensure that in hospital patients always receives continuous treatment.DIALYSIS TREATMENT Prepare for dialysis treatment according to FME'S policies to dialyse the patient effectively and to reduce delay time.Connect patient to dialysis machine using aseptic technique and ensure that patient is connected timeously with reduced risk of complications.Monitor and record patient's vital signs at least half hourly while on dialysis.Disconnect patient from dialysis machine on completion of treatment according to FME policies to maintain patient safety and prevent complications.Taking care of patients' access post dialysis by cleaning access site with appropriate solution to maintain access and prevent infection.Handing over the patient to hospital staff by communicating patient condition and observations to hospital staff and compiling and recording all necessary information on dialysis record chart as well as unit's observation chart.Adhere to safe work ethic and create a safe physical environment by complying with infection control and Occupation Health standard wearing protective clothing to prevent self injury and protect patient from cross injury.FINANCE Contain cost regarding operational efficiency in the unit by effectively utilizing equipment and disposables.Controlling own work attendance by being reliable and on duty as per duty rooster.Increase number of sessions, AHD and CRRTStock ordering, control and counting.Equipment movement control and record keeping.MACHINE MAINTENANCE Disinfection of dialysis machines as per FME'S protocol after each session to prevent calcification and freeing the machines from contaminants.Ensure that acute machines are serviced by maintaining machine service record.Ensure the use of RO systems for dialysis to protecting both machine and the patient.Disinfection and change of Portable RO membranes as per FME's protocolSTANDBY DUTIES Co-ordinate and allocate all incoming hospital callsEnsure maximum respond time one hour is achievedSTAFF CARE Recruitment of staffStaff orientationRewarding of staffStaff retentionDelegation of task Requirements University degree or equivalent diploma (Registered General Nurse diploma andNephrology Nursing Diploma), Clinical TechnologyAt least 2 years in the chronic unitAt least 1 year experience in the acute fieldCurrent knowledge of all acute devices eg Multifiltrate, 4008S, aqua Uno, 5008SFamiliar with healthcare businessUnderstand and use modern communication software and systemsStrong IT user knowledge (MS Office, Intranet etc.)Understand basics of e-health, data security and related topicsUp-to-date knowledge of IT and digitalisationLearning Management System (Life Renal Learning Center, Nephrocare Academy)Working for an international company with international standardsTravelling within the regionWillingness to travel or work weekends and shifts Competencies Excellent communication skills with strong intercultural skills and understandingTeam Player with a strong drive to create positive work environment, able to motivate and empower employeesPassion for continuous learning, ability to solid apprehension and fast familiarisation with new and complex tasksGood project management and organisational skillsConsultative approach and working styleAbility and motivation to proactively drive processes and projectsHigh level of flexibility, openness and empathy which is well balanced with high level of assertive skills, self-reliance and commitmentManaging budgets Email ****** Closing date Wednesday, April 17, 2024
