Job Purpose:
The Faculty of Business & Management Sciences seeks to appoint an Acting Assistant Dean: Learning and Teaching for a period of three (3 months). The purpose of this role is as follows:
To oversee functions delegated by the Dean with a primary focus on all aspects of Learning, Teaching and Assessment, and Quality Assurance.To establish a sound and innovative academic programme mix and support systems.Innovative programme delivery strategic planning and leadership.Curricular initiatives responsive to the socio-economic development needs of South Africa and Africa at large to meet workplace demands for graduates and to distinguish and enhance the faculty's reputation from regional, national and international counterparts.Enhancing opportunities for mentorship with prestigious corporate partners and alumni; forging new opportunities for inter-intra and multi-disciplinary collaborations; and expanding educational delivery to meet technology-driven marketplace worldwide.To ensure the faculty's Learning, Teaching and Assessment practices and curriculum are relevant, responsive, financially viable and sustainable.Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
A Doctoral and underpinning qualification in Commerce or related field.At least 10 years' higher education experience (with at least 5 years' relevant experience at a senior level).Relevant Higher Education management and coordination experience in programme design and curriculum at undergraduate and post-graduate level as well as working knowledge of processes within DHET, CHE, and SAQA.Evidence of involvement in faculty and institutional committees (i.e. Teaching and Learning; Curriculum officer committee; WIL committee; Language; ECP; etc).Recommendation:
Preference will be given to a person that has at least 4 years' experience in a department/programme coordinating or senior portfolio role within a Commerce department.Preference will be given to applicants registered with any of the statutory professional bodies in Commerce and that have been involved in professional body accreditation processes both internally and externally.Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities:
Lead and Manage all academic programmes including undergraduate Mainstream and Extended programmes.Curriculum Development (Manage the HEQSF process, including the development of Work Integrated Learning).Quality Assurance of the Academic Project including Professional body accreditations.Infrastructure and Enrolment Planning.Manage student success rates and throughput rates.Manage the Industry Advisory boards (departmental and faculty).Manage the faculty Health and Safety.Manage the Teaching and Learning within the faculty (including CE; WIL; etc.).Manage the Student Engagement activities within the faculty.Academic and professional leadership.Academic, financial and operational management.Establish partnerships with other academic institutions (nationally and internationally), relevant government departments, professional bodies, community organizations and schools.Market and enhance the image of the Faculty and the University.Share responsibility for the management of the Faculty.Chair and participate in relevant Faculty committees.Facilitate, manage and maintain sound internal staff and student relations as well as their development.Support the consolidation and harmonization of programmes on and across all business and management science campuses and sites of delivery.Manage the T&L related partnerships such as collaborations with TVETs; cross-border qualifications; dual or co-badged qualifications.Manage academic staff development; qualifications and workloads.Excellent communication and report writing skills in English.Excellent organizational and administration skills.Ability to lead and manage change through vision and values.Strategic decision making.High level academic leadership and people management skills.Sound strategic planning, project management and financial management skills.Networking skills and the ability to build strategic working relationships.Policy development and implementation skills.Analytical skills.Team development, mentoring and coaching.High level of discretion, emotional intelligence and sound judgment.Effective conflict management and negotiation skills.Integrity, energy and impact.Innovation and initiating action.Presentation and interpersonal skills.Computer literacy in MS Office.The Cape Peninsula University of Technology is committed to Employment Equity and aims to attract and retain talented individuals to achieve our equity objectives and therefore, people from the designated groups, including those with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
