The IIE (Pty) Ltd is the registered provider of higher education which is delivered through the following educational brands: Varsity College, Vega School, Rosebank College and IIEMSA.
The Independent Institute of Education's Central Academic Team (CAT) is responsible for the academic leadership and governance of the work done at the brands while each brand is managed as a business entity by its own divisional management team.
The IIE, as registered provider, has ultimate responsibility for registration, curriculum delivery, assessment and certification of all education on these sites as well as for relationships with external partners particularly in the regulatory and accreditation arena.
The IIE operates through seven faculties and has established academic operations, compliance and academic leadership infrastructure and processes.
The IIE's Central Academic Team have a vacancy for an Accreditation and Quality Assurance (AQA) Specialist at The IIE's offices based in Sandton. The IIE (Pty) Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of ADvTECH Ltd which is listed on the JSE.
Reporting to:
The incumbent will report to the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Manager.
Job purpose:
The incumbent will be responsible for delivering on key accreditation and quality assurance projects, including but not limited to, new tertiary qualification development, programme reviews, regulatory site visits, policy development and review, and quality assurance audits aligned with departmental and company strategic goals. The positioning of the Central Academic Team is evolving in alignment with the new business model of developing 'University Status'.
There is currently no direct management responsibility, but the incumbent will need to exercise influence across faculties and departments to deliver on projects.
Key Performance Areas:
New qualification development
Project manage the process of new qualification development from conceptualisation (including feasibility studies) to application for accreditation, including responding to conditions where required.In collaboration with Faculty, the Teaching and Learning Manager and Subject Matter Experts, write qualification exit-level outcomes and module outcomes aligned to the HEQSF criteria.Quality assure the curricula of qualifications developed for accreditation to meet all requirements as set out by the HEQSF and aligned to best practice in terms of curriculum design at a higher education level.Ensure compliance to applicable association and professional body requirements in the design and accreditation of programmes where required.Review and contribute to process and system enhancement in terms of new qualification development.Programme review Manage the cyclical review of assigned qualifications, including engaging with all stakeholders, including compiling surveys, putting together a programme review committee, and drafting reports.Track and consolidate curriculum changes by programme and work with the faculties to monitor the extent of change and implementation of agreed outcomes.Ensure that action plans for programme improvement are drafted by faculty and that the proposed interventions are implemented and monitored.
Regulatory site visits and quality assurance audits Manage and coordinate the planning and preparation for regulatory site visits and audits.Quality assure supporting evidence and self-evaluation reports.Fulfil the role of site coordinator for the institution.Assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of the processes, practices, and systems of The Institute from an institutional audit perspective.Determining the extent to which The Institute is meeting regulatory requirements and standards set by accrediting bodies.Identify areas for improvement and provide recommendations for enhancing The Institute's processes, practices, and systems.
Special projects Manage graduate tracking projects and draft insight reportsManage and coordinate ad hoc quality assurance projects.
Qualifications: Postgraduate qualification required, Masters is preferable.A postgraduate qualification in education (particularly curriculum design) would be an advantage.
Experience: At least five years in a position which has included programme accreditation or curriculum design and development.A knowledge of the Ghanaian Higher Education sector would be an advantage. Competencies: Impeccable English verbal and written competency.High level of computer literacy.Strong project planning, monitoring, and evaluation skills.Proven ability to create curriculum content for a higher education qualification.Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogical theory and principles that can be applied to curriculum design and review.Demonstrated ability to influence and excellent interpersonal skills.Demonstrated ability to manage self and own output and to work to tight deadlines while retaining impeccable levels of accuracy and high standards.Ability to work under pressure.
