Position: Accounting Intern
Start Date: As soon as possible
Type: Full-time temporary position (from start date - April 2025 with the possibility of extension for a further 10 months)
Working hours: 09:00 - 17:00 (flexible) Monday - Friday
Location: Remote but must be available to work in the office in Stellenbosch, South Africa twice per week in person if required.

Salary: R7,500.00 pm with possibility of performance dependent increase after 3 months

About the Project: Citizen Connect is a project managed by the Greater Stellenbosch Trust. The project supports the employability of participants through skill development and practical work experience. This internship offers a unique opportunity for a skilled participant to gain hands-on accounting experience under the guidance of our CFO, with the potential to set up their own business in the future.
Role Summary: The Accounting Intern will provide comprehensive support to the CFO, engaging in the full accounting function, including debtors, creditors, bank reconciliations, and monthly financial reporting. The intern will gather and check documents for payment, liaise with partners, and ensure organized filing of financial documents. This role is ideal for a University or College student in Accounting or a related field (e.g., Business Management) who is looking for practical work experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Full Accounting Function:
Manage debtors and creditors.
Perform bank reconciliations and other financial reconciliations.
Prepare and review financial reports.
Document Management:
Gather and check documents required for payment processing.
Ensure organized filing of documents, reports, returns, receipts, and communications.
Partner Liaison:
Communicate with partners regarding document submissions and payment processes.
Ensure timely and accurate exchange of financial information.
Monthly Financial Reporting:
Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports.
Analyze and interpret financial data to support decision-making.
Support to CFO:
Provide administrative and technical support to the CFO.
Undertake ad hoc tasks as assigned by the CFO, which may extend beyond Citizen Connect work but remain within the financial domain.
General Duties:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
Assist with financial audits and compliance requirements.
Support the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
Contribute to a positive team environment and demonstrate the ability to work under pressure.
Qualifications:
Recently graduated (in the past 12 months) from a University or College Accounting program or a related field (e.g., Business Management). Can be a student in the 3rd year (N6) requiring practical work experience.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Google Docs, and Sheets.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
Interest in learning and developing accounting and financial management skills.

We aim to complete the entire hiring process within 2 - 4 weeks after the application deadline. Ideally, we'd like to do onboarding and introductions from 1 - 13 December 2024 and start work on 13 January 2025.
