Accountant
for a stunning hotel and vineyard in the picturesque town of Franschhoek, South Africa. This is a full-time position that will provide an opportunity to oversee the full financial function of the property and contribute to improving financial and operating systems across all business units.
Role Description:
The Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the complete financial function at the property, ensuring accurate monthly financial reporting, and providing assistance in improving financial and operating systems. This role involves a mix of hands-on accounting work, reporting, and collaboration with various departments to ensure smooth financial operations. The Accountant will play a key role in managing the company's finances, including budget monitoring, cash flow management, stock reconciliation, and maintaining the Fixed Asset Register. The position also supports statutory reporting compliance and ad-hoc financial tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive accurate and timely monthly reporting, including P&L reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.
Perform preliminary variance analysis between budgets, actuals, forecasts, and KPIs.
Manage financial systems and assist in their development based on business needs.
Oversee intercompany transactions and manage cash flow, including forex operations.
Reconcile and process stock-related journals, as well as analyse stock movements.
Maintain the Fixed Asset Register and control Capex schedules.
Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes.
Ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal standard procedures.
Provide support for statutory and financial reporting activities.
Manage workload effectively within the team, ensuring efficient operations.
Participate in property operations and attend meetings as required.
Requirements:
A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with a sound understanding of financial principles and practices.
Previous experience in the hospitality industry is preferred.
Strong experience with accounting processes, from general ledger to trial balance.
Proficient knowledge of Sage X3/Enterprise Management; experience with INFOR HMS Property Management System is an advantage.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
Analytical problem-solving skills and ability to perform under pressure.
Team player with the ability to work independently.
Flexible and adaptable with a positive attitude.
