Job DescriptionCounter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) is a five-force collaboration delivering Counter Terrorism (CT) services to our regional forces as well as forming part of the national CT Network. Our staff work to the Government's CONTEST strategy under the four pillars of Prevent, Protect, Prepare and Pursue.
CTPNW's mission is to work together to keep people safe from terrorism. Our priorities focus us to drive business through performance, improvement and transformation so we can continue to counter the ever-changing threat of terrorism and extremism.
The OIMU handles and develops covert intelligence in support of Counter Terrorism investigations. Manchester OIMU operates with three syndicates, each working to a Detective Sergeant. OIMU officers and staff manage an active caseload of priority operations and are primarily responsible for gathering, assessing, and developing intelligence in support of the objectives of a CT Senior Investigating Officer (CTSIO), working hand in hand with other law enforcement and UK intelligence community partners.
Effective communication, teamwork, and a proactive attitude are vital attributes. Being a detective is not an essential criteria; however, candidates must possess an investigative mindset, an understanding of intelligence handling, and the ability to assess threat and risk.
Full training and induction will be provided upon commencement of the role. After six months in post, candidates will be able to commence their Intelligence Professionalisation Portfolio (IPP), a national accreditation from the College of Policing, which is then valid for three years. Officers and staff within the OIMU predominantly work early shifts on a weekday pattern, with the potential for further flexibility supported where operationally possible.
