Position details Job title Tax compliance manager Business Unit Finance Reports to (as per organogram) CFOOverall purpose of the role As a Tax Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations while providing strategic tax planning and expertise.
Your responsibilities will span various tax-related functions, and you'll be a key advisor.
If you're passionate about tax, have strong analytical skills, and enjoy contributing to organizational success, this role is for you!Position specifications Educational (minimum level necessary to perform the job) Professional/Tertiary in Accounting or equivalent tertiary qualification Post-graduate Tax qualification or significant experience in similar roles (preference will go do HDipTax / Masters in Tax holders) Other requirements • Advanced knowledge of Excel, MS Office, Word Experience (minimum years of experience and in which fields, required to perform the job) • Must have experience in compilation and submission of Income Tax and VAT returns for mid-sized corporations in South Africa.
• Experience with managing payroll related taxation (PAYE, UIF etc.).
• Experience with cross-border, transfer pricing and export transactions.
• Experience with managing foreign withholding tax and the taxation of permanent establishments.

Establishes best practices for tax governance and ensures that these practices are used throughout the Southern African cluster.Business expertise (the job's requirements for knowledge and expertise about the business rather than the technical expertise) Deliver a Full Range of Tax Services: Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations within specified timeframes.
Provide innovative tax planning strategies.
Review complex income tax returns.Risk Identification and Mitigation: Identify and mitigate tax risks.
Coordinate with accounting staff and tax advisory professionals.
Improve processes by implementing best practices.Tax Provision and Compliance: Manage tax provision and compliance processes.
Handle tax audits.
Maintain tax balances on the general ledger.Leadership (the requirements of the job for providing leadership and guidance to others, it measures the nature and breadth of the leadership) No people management experience necessary but engagement with senior leadership / EXCO / Boards will be advantageous.
Nature of impact (measures how the job impacts the business by measuring the overall responsibility associated with the job) Primarily responsible for establishing a tax compliance office in South Africa, with all ancillary controls and checks.
Includes but not limited to Income Tax, VAT, Withholding Taxes, PAYE etc.
Review all regulatory tax submissions for the region (Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Mauritius and South Africa) Acts as key resource in tax compliance changes.Area of impact (measures how wide the impact of the job is within the organisation) Set policies and update tax policies for the region.
Work closely with finance manager in preparation of regulatory submissions and Annual Financial Statements.
Interpersonal skills (the level and type of people skills required to perform this job on an ongoing basis) Champions the interaction between Finance, leadership and regulatory bodies.
Problem solving (measures the mental skills required to perform this job and the complexity of typical problems) Prepare and review business procedure documentation to ensure they reflect process/system changes.Level of decision-making / authority (the level of decision-making that is required in order to perform this job) Implement tax changes.
