Surveillance Officer (Nurse - 12 Months Contract - Wits Nicd)

Main purpose of the job:To timeously collect, and accurately capture and report on clinical data for surveillance and research purposes from patients at designated sites (e.g. clinic, community and hospital-based) by liaising with provincial, district and facility staff, in order to achieve the objectives within the project and as directedLocation:NICD, Sandringham - JohannesburgKey performance areas:Liaise closely with the NICD and other clinical diagnostic laboratoriesObtain contact details of appropriate doctors, infection control focal points or other health care workers in health facilities across the country and liaise with these persons by telephone and email to obtain case notes of suspected cytokine release syndrome (CRS) cases, and to obtain completed Case investigation forms (CIFs)Maintain CRS case tracking sheet daily by adding new cases, classifying cases and updating tracking status of cases as appropriatePrepare weekly and monthly PowerPoints and written reports on progress in obtaining CDRS case data, case status and summary descriptions of cases at weekly CVI surveillance meetings, and other meetings where requiredWork with Centre for Virology and Immunology (CVI) team members to provide results on CRS surveillance to appropriate WHO representativesLiaise with any other stakeholders as necessary, and directed by supervisors to ensure timely and accurate collection of data and reporting of resultsConduct field visits and off site training in CRS identification and notificationAssist in setting up of new surveillance data sources by liaising with ophthalmologists in referral hospitals to identify CRS cases through surgery for congenital cataractsParticipate in and support other surveillance programmes as requested by line managerRequired minimum education and training:Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Nursing or related fieldMust have a valid driver's licenseRequired minimum work experience:Minimum of 4 years post qualification experience in the relevant field and 2 years research/surveillance experienceDesirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:HPCSA registration would be advantageousKnowledge of surveillance and research methodologiesShould be proficient in using MS Excel and Outlook (Microsoft Office packages)Should be knowledgeable in Good Clinical PracticeEpidemiology/Public Health experience would be advantageousShould possess interpersonal skills and be a team playerExperience in public sector communicable disease surveillance or immunization programmes would be advantageousTO APPLY:Only if you do meet the minimum job requirements and experience as mentioned above, you may submit a detailed updated CV.Please Apply Online and complete your registration on Ditto Hire (our application tracking system) to enable and protect you as a candidate to accept the new POPIA terms and conditions.
