We deliver technical services and technology systems to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the De Beers Diamond value chain from exploration to diamond recovery. Activities include marine geophysical survey, sampling, mining, projects, engineering, technology development and maintenance. We provide specialized diamond processing and recovery technology for the De Beers Group Exploration and Mining Operations. We are the industry leader in marine mining practices resulting in the most successful and advanced marine mining equipment and operations globally.
The Company has an excellent record in successful project delivery which with over 140 projects delivered in the last 22 years focused on the establishment and development of a fleet of sampling and mining ships and all associated equipment. On the base of this successful track record, we have a strategic intention to expand our project offering to De Beers land-based operations.
Job Description
This role reports into a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager
The incumbent will be responsible for all project engineering functions and activities associated with safety, engineering, planning, scheduling, procurement, risk management, reporting, construction, budget estimating and control during both study and execution phases in line with De Beers project procedures. There may be a requirement to manage and co-ordinate the activities of small project teams and 3rd party service providing companies. The incumbent will be required to plan, engineer and execute projects within time, cost, resource and budget constraints, through all project phases in line with De Beers project procedures.
Your role will include:
Financial Effectiveness
Establish and manage project financial budgets to deliver in line with project requirements.
Deliver projects and studies within authorized budgets and cash flow.
Engineering Design and Analysis Effectiveness
Manage, guide (and perform) the execution of systems and equipment specification and design including documentation, data packs and review.
Technical Consultancy Effectiveness
Provide technical consulting services to the operations and disciplines in the area of specialization.
Project Engineering Effectiveness
Identify and develop specifications and standards for systems and equipment
Translate requirements into system specifications
Draft scopes of work for procurement of consulting (e.g. design) services, fabrication, quality, physical installations and commissioning
Administer contracts to deliver in line with contractual agreements
Administer risk management on allocated work
Reporting (incl. presentation) and report writing
Carry out site verification and system commissioning
Facilitate system integration, setting to work and handover of systems into new and existing systems
Manage project technical documentation and as-built processes
People Management
Manage and guide subordinates to achieve individual and team objectives.
Effective knowledge transfer and improvement of own value adding capability
Manages and implements knowledge sharing initiatives.
Safety, Health, Security and Environmental Effectiveness
Manages and monitors department's adherence to applicable legislation, company safety, security and environmental policies, procedures, goals and objectives
Effective stakeholder management
Develop client/partner relationships to facilitate teamwork and cross functional intra company boundaries
Client Relationships
Builds relationships across the De Beers Pipeline by sharing business information and knowledge
Qualifications
Formal qualifications:
Recognised Degree/Diploma in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical)
Additional requirements:
6 to 8 years post qualification experience with at least 5 years in project engineering and execution.
Experience in multi-disciplinary marine or land based mining projects will be an added advantage but not a prerequisite.
Preparedness to relocate to other centers as and when necessary
