Job Description: Leap29 is currently assisting a leading consultancy at the forefront of the global energy transition. Our client is looking to strengthen their position in the renewables market and is in search of a Senior Technical Due Diligence Consultant, experienced in Solar PV and/or Wind, to join their South Africa team. Based in Cape Town, with the flexibility to work remotely a few days a week, the role involves overseeing technical due diligence assignments and guiding clients through the financial close phase. You will play a crucial role in providing technical guidance across teams, ensuring the successful delivery of consultancy projects.
Responsibilities include: Overseeing technical due diligence assignments and guiding clients through the financial close phase. Managing the preparation of EPC & O&M tenders and participating in contract negotiations. Leading feasibility studies and assessing overall project design for potential enhancements. Managing and executing high-quality technical advisory projects. Offering technical insights from initial assessment to economic feasibility. Reviewing project permits, designs, and key construction contracts. Assisting Sponsors and Lenders throughout the Financial Close process. Collaborating with Legal, Insurance, and Financial Advisors. Evaluating technical risks and proposing mitigation strategies for project CAPEX, OPEX, and revenues. Monitoring project construction, commissioning, and acceptance phases. Overseeing projects during the operational period. Our ideal candidate is a focused and highly organized team player, adept at providing both execution support and technical guidance. Possessing strong problem-solving skills and a robust work ethic, you should also demonstrate conflict resolution abilities with innovative thinking.
Requirements: You hold permanent residency in South Africa. You are proficient in spoken and written English. You possess a Master's degree in engineering or equivalent practical experience. You boast 3-5 years' experience in the solar and/or wind industry, with at least 5 years overall in renewable energy, ideally in a consultancy role. You have extensive experience in technical due diligence on solar and/or wind projects, particularly with PV EPC, O&M, PPA, and Wind turbine contracts review (EPC, WTG supply contract, O&M, PPA) as Lender's/Owner's technical advisor. You bring experience in technical solar and wind turbine inspections and construction monitoring. Participation in reviewing on-site project acceptance testing/commissioning performed by suppliers. You have familiarity with Solar and Wind resource assessment, and/or financial models (an asset). You possess strong computer skills and can adapt to multiple software tools. You excel at managing multiple jobs concurrently, meeting deadlines, staying within budget, and ensuring quality. Your communication style is clear and concise, adaptable to various audiences. You are open to short trips in Africa if required. Additional abilities, desirable but not necessary: Driver's license B. Fluency in French and/or Portuguese.
