The Opportunity Senior Scientist, Enzyme Engineering
Roche Diagnostics in Cape Town is seeking to appoint a full-time Senior Scientist on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will report to the Reagent Research and Design (RRD) Team Leader for the Enzyme Engineering group and will collaborate within a team of scientists to conceptualize and develop applications of enzymes within the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) market.
Key Challenges Carry out early-stage research to explore and validate novel product ideas
Contribute to a multidisciplinary team that is dedicated to developing innovative, world-class products for the NGS market
Participate in project progress reviews sharing key findings, conclusions and implications
Keep detailed records of all experiments and project-related information
Keep abreast of advances in peer reviewed publications and the marketplace
Who you are as an Ideal Candidate Education You hold a MSc degree, or equivalent qualification thereof, in the study field of either Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics or Biotechnology
Experience You have 1 or more years experience in enzyme improvement and general molecular biology
Recommended Knowledge, Skills and Abilities In-depth knowledge and experience of a broad range of molecular biology techniques
Well-developed analytical, multitasking and problem solving skills
Good communication skills including the ability to articulate findings
Practical experience with enzyme mutagenesis, -expression, -purification and analysis
