As a subsidiary of the Grindrod group, we harness the capabilities of the broader company to manage projects that range from a single shipment to fully integrated logistics solutions.The successful applicant will be responsible for:Inward and outward freight desk administration.Financial AdministrationEnsure timeous invoicing and recoveries from customers.Process service provider invoices in a timely manner.Import FunctionsReceive and request documentation from customers and/or shipping lines.Co-ordinate the release of import shipments against payment of invoices and submission of relevant documentation.Export FunctionsBook and co-ordinate shipments via air/road/sea on behalf of the customer.Prepare statutory documentation, including bills of lading.Logistics FunctionsIssue purchase orders/instructions to service providers/vendors.Monitor deliveries and collection of containers and breakbulk cargo.Update relevant parties on the status of shipments.Arrange multi-modal movement of cargo across borders.Vessel Freight DeskCo-ordinate the booking process for the cargo to be loaded on Grindrod operated vessels in the various African countries.Liaise with customers in terms of shipping documents, cargo readiness, dimensions, and capacity.Ensure that cargo is received, and cargo clearance is processed in a timely manner.Maintain full cargo lists and provide regular updates to the Vessel operators for planning purposes.Maintain accurate records per shipment.General FunctionsLiaise with shippers, receivers, and principals regarding import and export shipments.Respond to customers and principals in a prompt manner.Arrange various services with vendors as requested by customers within specified timelines.Mentor and coach junior freight controllers and ensure adherence to internal processes by all team members in the department.Provide guidance, where necessary, on freight-related concerns and correct or train, as applicable.Ensure that on-the-job training records are maintained and disseminated to management and HR.Review and mitigate risks with regard to:Document submission and shipping requirements.Hazardous declarations.Bill of lading clauses.Capturing of cargo dues.Haulage of various types of cargo within the Southern and East African region.Invoicing and tariff billing.ISO compliance.Minimum RequirementsGrade 12.Understanding Shipping Certificate or relevant industry qualification.Computer literate with advanced knowledge of MS Programs.Experience:5 years in the import/export shipping industry, with a strong knowledge in all aspects of freight functions.Customs Clearing experience/knowledge will be an advantage.Ship Shape knowledge beneficial.Applicants to send their CVs to ****** date: 18 September 2024
