Responsibilities:Organizing, Planning, Leading, Directing, ControllingPerform all duties in accordance with South African Nursing Council (SANC), Department of Health (DOH) and National Core Standards.Adhere to the principles and standards of Patient Advocacy according to SANC Acts and Omissions, Company Code of Conduct, Patient Rights and Responsibility Charter, National Millennium Development goals and responsibility of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).Devise a working knowledge of and understand the nursing strategy in order to drive the strategic Nursing agenda and align night staff outputs accordingly.Assess patient acuity at all wards during the night and determine resource needs for the following day.Liaise with Nursing Manager, when necessary, for additional resource requirements and ensure accurate and thorough handover of all activities from previous shift, highlighting any concerns or challenges that must be monitored.Monitor night staff absenteeism and manage in accordance with the Group's policies and procedures.Quality, Risk, Emergency Preparedness:Monitor the safety and care delivered by staff, including agency staff, and identify quality improvement opportunities.Collaborate with Nursing Manager and Unit Managers in implementing actions to improve quality service delivery at night.Participate in implementing and driving change and quality improvement initiatives.Conduct regular checks of emergency equipment through regular ward rounds and audits.Conduct patient environment checks e.g. bed and cot sides, bells in reach, lockers, IV lines still potent, urine outputs etc.Co-ordinate after hour admissions and ensure effective recordkeeping and handover the next morning.Monitor and manage the stock levels of all medication in the wards and the emergency Pharmacy cupboard.Drive infection prevention at night and ensure standard precautions are adhered to.Patient Advocacy, Customer/Doctor Relationships:Build mutually beneficial relationships with both internal and external customers.Conduct hospital ward rounds to ensure compliance with protocols, security, safety of patients, adherence to policies and procedures, all to promote a positive patient and customer experience.Drive a positive patient experience by ensuring Unit Managers and Nurses put patients first and deliver a positive experience.Finance:Support the Nursing Services Manager and Unit Managers in controlling budget expenditure, by ensuring nursing resource spend is in line with budget, patient care and actual activities.Manage staffing requirements to ensure optimal operating efficiencies.Audit patient files as per agreement with Medical Schemes and Clinix requirements to ensure that patient files have complete and detailed documentation to positively contribute toward the billings (revenue) process.Manage wastage (e.g. stock) to ensure reduction in expenses.
