Job Description: Scope of the Role: We are on the lookout for a highly motivated, regional Head of Content to join our Cape-Town based team. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, storyteller, and editor, with a love for crafting compelling and informative content and editorial.
Experience as a public relations content writer is preferred, as well as the ability to digest and translate complex industry jargon into understandable and educational content suited to target audiences.
We're looking for someone eager to learn about our range of clients' diverse industries, ready to give and receive honest and constructive feedback, and guide the content team to new heights!
The successful candidate will be responsible for the creation of PR content on behalf of a suite of top-tier clients, predominantly in the corporate and financial services sector, with some consumer writing included. The ideal candidate is adaptable enough to suit the communications strategies and styles of both B2B and consumer brands.
Responsibilities: Conduct desktop research and write content (mostly press releases and thought leadership articles) that meets client briefs and media expectations.Work with client management teams to develop content calendars, ideas, and topics.Interview clients in a journalistic fashion for content creation purposes.Run daily content meetings and help source and identify news angles for clients.Assist client service teams with generating ideas for content and manage the process from ideation to content creation.Attend client-facing briefings and spokesperson interviews as required.Assist with editing and proofreading case studies and other content for the MSL website.Manage MSL's social media pages – developing both written and multimedia content.Write thought leadership content aimed at promoting MSL's expertise and services.Support client management teams and step in above and beyond expected duties to fill gaps during busy periods.Work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Use word processing, video/sound editing, and related software and tools efficiently.Perform data entry via content management systems for client websites such as WordPress and similar applications.Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in English Studies, Journalism, Copywriting, or a related field.5+ years of working experience as a content writer or in a similar role.Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).Knowledge of how to use Canva is advantageous.Basic knowledge of SEO content writing is advantageous.Strong organizational, administrative, and time management skills.Knowledge of and experience with social media marketing is advantageous.WordPress or similar CMS experience is advantageous.Skills: Understanding of the content requirements for media in South Africa, spanning digital and written content.Firm grasp of the multimedia content creation process.Proficient in social media channels and the content requirements for each platform (Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter).Strong written and oral communication skills.Strong proofreading and editing skills.Strong organizational skills.Strong project management skills.Above all, you'll be someone who: Is willing and eager to grow and improve.Has a natural curiosity for learning new skills.Is a natural team player and leader.Conducts yourself with empathy and respect.Wants to build a successful and flourishing career in content.Publics Groupe is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and prohibits any forms of discrimination or harassment.
