NISC (Pty) Ltd is an academic publishing house in the university town of Makhanda, Eastern Cape. We publish journals, books and databases that showcase the best of African scholarship to a global audience. We wish to appoint one or more persons who will be responsible for a group of titles from the growing list of academic journals that we publish on behalf of learned societies, universities and research institutions. Position(s): Publishing Coordinator (Journals)Reporting to the publishing manager, the incumbent will coordinate the publication of a group of journals, working with a team comprising copyeditors as well as layout and other production and support staff. The publishing team includes NISC staff, as well as outsourced suppliers and freelance contractors who work remotely. Title responsibilities will be informed by the subject area expertise, interests and experience of the incumbent. Main responsibilitiesEnsuring timely production and publication of journals in both print and online formats that reflect the high production values that are the hallmark of the company. Representing your journals, as well as NISC and its publishing ethos, professionally to authors, editors and other stakeholders.Engaging with editors-in-chief to plan each volume of their journal so that appropriate content is published to the agreed schedule and standard.Communicating appropriately with authors during the publication process to meet expectations of a timely, quality published research output.RequirementsAt least 2 years' relevant work experience in the publishing sector OR a post-graduate qualification and a background in scholarly research, academic editing and publishing and/or production. Demonstrable computer proficiency. Working knowledge of Adobe CS6/Creative Cloud would be an advantage. Excellent language skills and meticulous attention to detail. A passion for accuracy, clarity and consistency.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills manifest as an ability to work diplomatically but effectively with co-workers, journal authors, editors and other partners.Ability to work on multiple projects at once with good time management and resilience to the pressures associated with deadline-driven work.Terms: This is a permanent, full-time position. We accommodate limited work-from-home arrangements, but in-office attendance with the publishing team will be expected at least four times a week.
