Job Description:The Principal Energy and Climate Change must straddle the technical, policy and commercial arenas to build a holistic solution and deliver it across the business.
The role will be expected to build a detailed roadmap with clear milestones that delivers on our ambition which is operationally and financially achievable and creates a point of positive market differentiation for De Beers in the media, with brands and designers in the luxury category and among consumers.This includes defining the risks, strategy, standards, talent, performance management and assurance requirements.
Key Tasks and ResponsibilitiesDevelop the Group Energy and Climate Change (E&CC) Strategy, Objectives, Programmes, Standards and TargetsMonitor and report on the E&CC KPIs and programmesDevelop the De Beers Group E&CC Risk log and monitor action programmes and plansDeliver the Group E&CC programmesProvide technical input and guidance into the development of Anglo American (AA) Standards, Guidelines, Training and Assurance tools, Policies, Guidelines, Programmes, Campaigns and Initiatives to ensure alignment with DB needsGuide the De Beers BUs/operations to develop BU/operations specific E&CC strategies and plansBe the internal thought leader regarding emerging technologies, regulatory changes and innovative approaches that help deliver our ambitionWork with Group T&S to integrate the E&CC strategy and plans into current practices (Environmental Management, P101, Operating Model, Projects, etc)Lead the development and implementation of E&CC leadership capability development and talent management across the DB GroupWork with the Group and country Corporate Affairs teams to integrate the E&CC strategy and achievements with De Beers Group's wider Building Forever approach, brand, communications and engagement strategiesDevelop Group-wide positions on E&CC and provide expert advice to De Beers Group Exco, challenge paradigms across the Group and drive continuous improvement of methodologies to improve effectivenessRepresent Group Technical and Sustainability at various internal BU planning committees to drive E&CCAdvise on the selection of expert delivery partners and consultantsDevelop relationships and identify opportunities to partner with and/or secure co-funding from multi-laterals, civil society, grant-making bodies, universities, and other relevant organisations to form partnerships that advance the Group's E&CC goals Qualifications:A postgraduate qualification in the natural sciences or engineeringStrong technical expertise, business acumen and experience in design and implementation of E&CC programmesStrong expertise in the delivery of E&CC programmesSuccessfully executed complex system, capital and/or change projectsAbility to impact BUs where little or no formal authority existsTECHNICAL KNOWLEDGEExperience working in complex stakeholder environments.Strong foundational knowledge in one or more of these areas: Engineering, Climate Change, Finance.Delivery focussed
