We are currently recruiting for a qualified and experienced Policy Associate: Research and Advocacy to join our dynamic team in Johannesburg.
2. Job Purpose: To support the coordination, planning, organising, implementing of program activities under the Policy Unit and provide administrative, research and operational support to the Unit and the Head across KT programmatic areas (Education; Socio-economic Development; Local Government and Civil Society).
3. Duties & Responsibilities 3. 1 Programme Coordination and Administration
Provide administrative support in the implementation of program activities, across KT programsPrepare and monitor the program and policy calendar(s), reschedule and rearrange internal and external stakeholder tasks and projectsUndertake additional program and policy orientated administration as and when neededResponsible for effective program coordination, event planning and administration of day-to-day programme timelines, activities and planned deliverablesReadily report on and prepare presentations on programmatic work for relevant meetingsCoordinate and schedule all internal program activities, travel, logistical arrangements, events, schedules and meetings ect.Support the implementation of assigned policy infiltration initiatives and policy influence advocacy activitiesMonitor policy advocacy engagements for collaborative implementation with sector stakeholdersSupport the Annual Performance Plan (APP) implementation and monitoring of outputs and outcomesImplement and monitor specific projects and develop necessary tools as assigned.3.3 Research and Advocacy
Analyse research and advocacy trends in programs, identify challenges and communicate proposed and solutionsInitiate the development of requested program concept notes, presentations and relevant materialIdentifying relevant research and advocacy opportunities and preparing relevant policy documentsDrafting abstracts for various advocacy efforts not limited to conferences, colloquiums and relevant book contribution chapters.3.4 Stakeholder Engagement
Identify stakeholders and partnerships to engage in influencing policy interventions across program areas at local and provincial levelDevelop a weekly internal digest and provide regular updates and tracking of select policies proposals and amendmentsCreate and maintain an internal database of policy sector stakeholders, thought leaders and high level decision making platformsUpdate the subscriptions list tool and relevant calendars, and periodic opportunity lists.3.5 Reporting
Assist with, prepare and submit relevant program and project development reports for approval by the Senior Policy OfficerAssist with drafting of policy event reports and op-ed's as assignedSupport the reporting on program activities and/or progress on a weekly and monthly basis4. Desired Experience & Qualification 4.1 Formal Qualification/Degree
Masters in Development Policy, Economics, Project Management or an equivalent relevant degree in Social Science and/or Humanities.5. Work Experience Minimum of 3 years previous experience in NGO sectorProven experience as a program coordinator or similar roleDemonstrated experience in coordinating activities and organizing eventsDemonstrated experience of working on multiple projects in complex environmentsValid driver's license with driving experience.6. Job Related Knowledge Knowledge of administration, programme coordination and/or project management.Knowledge of National Policy Development frameworks and processesUnderstanding of South African bureaucratic, legislative and overall government landscape across KT program areasUnderstanding of research and advocacy integration in achieving policy development and implementationLeadership or management experience within a team implementing diverse programsProficiency in MS Suite with strong skills In Excel, Word and PowerPoint, as well as Google Suite7.
