Purpose of the Role:Ensure production equipment is in goods operating conditions and well maintained.Ensure correct setting of machine.Conduct fault analysis in case of malfunction or rejects.Role: PET Process TechnicianLocation: Western Cape Industry: Rigid PlasticsQualification:Bachelor's Degree / Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering5 Years relevant Setting experienceKnowledge:Sound understanding of DrawingsFundamentals of fault finding and equipment testingSound knowledge on Health & Safety - proceduresSkillsInstallation of parts & related equipmentFault finding and problem solving skillsAbility to act decisively and urgentlyHigh level of emotional intelligence and interpersonal skillsCareer growth Packaging and PET processing - future growthDecision MakingAble to make good business aligned judgement decisions at anoperational level whilst maintaining maintenance standards, practices & procedures in line with defined and communicatedauthority as per instructions,Accountability:Responsible for all activities linked to position as definedEnsure escalation to the appropriate level of authorityCommunication:Ensure transparent, responsive and open communication between colleagues.Responsibilities:Technical:Identify, report, and rectify all technical areas of concerns on assigned production equipment ( machines, moulds, etc.)In-depth understanding :Product and its quality criteriaProcess (material feeding and drying, injection moulding, reheat stretch blow moulding and injection blow moulding)All equipment - detailed for assigned equipment Mould installationTechnical principles and drawings ( assemblies and spare part finding, pneumatic, hydraulic, electric)Fault Analysis and problem solving:Conduct fault analysis and problem solvingProduct quality, process issuesMould issuesMachine malfunction ( mechanic / hydraulic / pneumatic/ electricRecognize and report problems to Maintenance Manager & Production Manager on other than the assigned equipment.Maintenance:Independently develop maintenance is done at required intervals according to the plans By yourselfBy service suppliers as agreed by Maintenance Manager & Production ManagerDocument maintenance according to the plansSpares:Identify spares needed for assigned equipment: In general As a preventative measure identified during maintenance checks.Machine Setting:Independently develop machine setting (teamwork as needed)Set and check that machines are correctly set for each run.Document settings and setting adjustments centrallyIf needed ( for fault finding, etc. ) the technician is allowed to temporarily run the machine with bridged safe switch, while present at the machine.He must be aware of the risk that comes with such action and it is his responsibility to ensure he does not get himself or others into dangerous situationsHe must ensure he takes the right precautions (e.g. know the movements of the machine, special PPE like face shields for such actions.He must make sure other staff are not near the danger of the machines. Management:Liaise with Maintenance Manager & Production Manager to ensure machine availability vs. major maintenance intervals.Have an overview what needs to be done and report to and report to managers.Give completion dates and fulfil tasks required by Maintenance Manager & Production ManagerEnsure sound relationships and communication with internal work related staff (QC and Production) and external ( Toolroom, Technical department and suppliers.Strive for improvement, research and make suggestions.Administration:Log jobs performedAnalyze Defect Register together with Maintenance Manager & Production Manager to assist in solving problems ( quotes on service, spare parts, etc.)Spares: have an overview of existing stock for equipment Spare part analysis ( keep stock vs. source at breakdown) Likelihood of wear / breakage vs cost vs. delivery time.Report parts needed to Maintenance Manager & Production Manager and assist in decision to have on stock or source at breakdown.Assist Maintenance Manager & Production Manager in ordering process:Prepare documentsFollow up on ordersPlan for the year ahead, assist Maintenance Manager & Production Manager with work on budget for maintenance.Health & Safety:Ensure and enforce that aspects in area of responsibility conform to health and safety requirements.Maintain housekeeping standards in area of responsibility. e.g. ensure cleanliness assigned machine and areas.Work safely and report on safety hazards or issues.Report any accidents, incidents, and near misses.Quality:Apply the company's quality principles and standardsMaintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)Food Safety System Certification ( FSSC)Food safety standards are site specific and at these sites employees should:Apply the site's food safe principles and standardsReport any food safety hazards or issues to your SupervisorComply to and maintain all GMPs in relation to the company's FSMS ( Food Safety Management Services)Self- Development - Growth - TrainingRealistic assessment of own strengths and development areas and undertake actions to address weaknesses, if any that hinders the fulfilment of your objectives.Keep abreast of innovation and technical improvements for further self-development and the development of the company,Keep contact to your key suppliers and discuss with them.Read operator manuals of machinesTeamwork and co-operationSelf- ManagementLeadership and interpersonal relationshipProduct and service qualityGeneral:Perform additional tasks as required .Ensure team focus and accountabilityApply the company's principles and standardsSet standards to be a role model for the team
