Mitchell's Plain Transitional Care Facility (Aquarius Health Care NPC) is situated on the premises of Lentegeur Hospital, Mitchell's Plain and is a 147 bed in-patient facility accommodating patients for wound care, rehabilitation, palliative, and convalescent care.

Job Purpose
To provide speech therapy clinical and administrative services to patients admitted to the facility for short-term rehabilitation, wound care, convalescent, and palliative care.
Job Requirements
A degree in Speech and Language Pathology
Current registration with the HPCSA
A good knowledge and understanding of:
CVA and how communication is impacted depending on the area affected
TBI
Palliative Care
Dementia and the impact that it has on feeding.
Job Responsibilities
Assessing in-patients with a variety of etiologies (CVA, brain tumour, brain injury, esophageal/throat cancer, progressive neurological disorder, palliation) for language, motor speech, voice, dysphagia and cognitive-linguistic communication fallouts.
Managing and providing tailored therapy to the above-mentioned patients.
Family training and education on management at home, regarding swallowing disorders and/or communication fallouts.
Monitoring and managing students.
In-staff training and education on swallowing and communication difficulties.
Work well within a multidisciplinary team, including input during ward rounds, morning handover meetings and discussions on management of patients.
Assessment and treatment of adults with communication and swallowing difficulties.
Provide support, guidance, and training to RCWs and students.
Provide in-service training to MDT.
Provide education/counseling to patients and caregivers.
Manage departmental resources.
Display empathy, promote advocacy and facilitate holistic treatment.
Key Competencies
Experience in adult physical rehabilitation: neurology, surgery, medicine, orthopaedics, TB and HIV.
Experience in working as part of a diverse inter-disciplinary team.
Computer literacy (Ms Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email) and report writing skills.
Personal Attributes
Ability to prioritise and organise work, exercise self-discipline and function under pressure.
Work independently without supervision and handle a high work volume.
Team player with strong inter-personal skills.
Excellent communication and conflict management skills.
