We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Governance & Compliance Manager (Environmental Management Systems) to join our clients team in the oil and gas industry. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the organization's compliance with environmental regulations and standards while driving governance initiatives to promote sustainable practices and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities: Governance & Compliance: Develop, implement, and manage the Environmental Management System (EMS) in alignment with ISO 14001 standards and other applicable regulations. Monitor and ensure compliance with local, national, and international environmental laws, policies, and regulations specific to the oil and gas industry. Conduct regular audits, inspections, and assessments to evaluate compliance and identify areas for improvement. Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory authorities, ensuring timely reporting and resolution of compliance issues. Develop and maintain a governance framework to ensure alignment with corporate policies and industry best practices. Policy Development & Implementation: Draft, update, and enforce environmental policies and procedures to minimize risks and enhance operational sustainability. Provide guidance and training to staff and contractors on environmental compliance and governance policies. Review and integrate governance requirements into business operations and projects. Risk Management: Identify potential environmental risks and implement mitigation strategies. Manage incident investigations related to environmental non-compliance or breaches, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented. Prepare reports and recommendations for senior management on compliance status and risks. Sustainability Initiatives: Lead efforts to improve environmental performance and sustainability across operations. Develop strategies to reduce the organization's carbon footprint and promote energy efficiency. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to drive sustainability programs and initiatives. Reporting & Documentation: Ensure accurate documentation of compliance activities, audit results, and corrective actions. Prepare comprehensive compliance and governance reports for management and stakeholders. Keep up-to-date with industry developments and regulatory changes. Qualifications & Experience: Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 8 years of experience in governance and compliance within the oil and gas industry, with specific experience in EMS . Strong knowledge of ISO 14001 standards and environmental legislation in South Africa. Proven experience in implementing and managing environmental management systems. Familiarity with risk assessment and mitigation processes in industrial environments. Certification in environmental management or compliance (e.g., ISO Lead Auditor) is an advantage. Skills & Competencies: Excellent understanding of environmental regulations and industry standards. Strong leadership and communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders. Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Proficient in preparing detailed reports and presenting findings to management.
