The Director of Rowing will oversee all aspects of the school's rowing program. This role requires a dynamic individual with a passion for rowing, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to nurturing the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of our student-athletes. Responsibilities include coaching, administration, logistics, safeguarding, cultivating partnerships, fundraising, and promoting the sport within the school and wider community.
Key Responsibilities: CoachingDevelop and implement a comprehensive rowing curriculum.Lead by example, demonstrating technical proficiency and tactical acumen.Foster a culture of continuous improvement and growth mindset.Collaborate with assistant coaches and support staff.Monitor and evaluate individual and team performance.AdministrationManage all administrative aspects of the rowing program.Maintain accurate records of athlete participation, medical history, and academic progress.Coordinate with school administration, parents, alumni, and external stakeholders.Serve as a liaison between the rowing program and governing bodies.LogisticsPlan and coordinate all logistical aspects of training sessions, competitions, and team travel.Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes during off-site activities.Oversee the maintenance and inventory management of rowing equipment and facilities.SafeguardingPrioritize the welfare and safeguarding of student-athletes, coaches, and support staff.Implement and enforce safeguarding policies and procedures.Provide training on safeguarding best practices and mental health awareness.Respond promptly to safeguarding concerns or incidents.Community EngagementAct as a brand ambassador for the rowing program.Cultivate partnerships with local rowing clubs and organizations.Organize outreach programs and community events.Leverage media channels to raise awareness of the rowing program.Job Requirements: Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Sports Science, Physical Education, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).5-8 years of relevant experience.Proven track record of successful coaching experience in rowing.Expertise in program administration, budget management, logistics coordination, and safeguarding.Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.Certification in coaching, first aid/CPR, and safeguarding (or willingness to obtain).Comprehensive understanding of relevant regulations, best practices, and ethical standards in rowing.Driver's License and PDP.Experience towing boat trailers.Knowledge and SkillsExcellent organizational skills, ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines.Sound computer literacy.Ability to communicate in English (any other languages are an advantage).Strong administrative skills and time management.Interpersonal/People SkillsExcellent interpersonal skills, able to relate to diverse staff and students.Champions diversity and fosters an attitude of appreciating diversity.High self-awareness and commitment to personal development.Networking skills, able to persuade and convince others.Supervision SkillsAbility to schedule and allocate work among coaches and interns.AttributesPersonal integrity, fairness, and a balanced approach to competing demands.Commitment to transparent management.Strong service orientation, results focus, and accountability.High level of professionalism.Flexibility, willingness to consider alternative perspectives.Good problem-solving skills and commitment to continuous improvement.Collaborative approach, seeking input from others.Candidates can apply by accessing and completing the application on the link below.
